budgetting for presents

i had already started a thread on this but for some reason i can't find it anymore.

anyway you know if you have a budget for each person's present say £20 but with things like 3 for 2 on in boots you can get 3 presents for £40 instead of £60, do you buy extra presents to make up the extra £20 or think well they have presents in value of £20 they just didn't cost that much.

i hope my babble makes sense!!

If I have a budget and get them on a 3 for 2, I just thank my lucky stars and don't add to the present!

I tend to try presents like that for the kids friends and aunties and uncles.

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 26/10/2007 18:44

Dont get them something else. Just thank youur lucky stars the overall cost will be cheaper.

tcmummy · 26/10/2007 18:45

Keep it as cheap as poss

Currently I am spending £10 on stuff I need at Boots and getting the £5 off No.7 voucher (have got 3 so far) and then buying bits of make up and brushes for my niece. Have got £21.50 worth of stuff for £6.50 for her

also boots do xmas shopping nights where if you spend 50 quid you get a tenners worth of points and online its 10 points per pound and you can usually find a code for more on MSE.
I only do xmas for kids. Much cheaper. Less to landfill.

nappyaddict · 26/10/2007 19:47

charlie how do i find out when they are?

A freebie is a freebie- you don't have to make it up!

Chances are ime anyway that if you ahve a tenner left Christmas Eve it will go on Christmassy stuff so it all balances!

But no, I dont feel any compunction to make it up- and neither do myfamily, lets face it, everyone has access to the same offers.

got some nice stuff in Smiths on 3 for 2, btw

charliecat · 26/10/2007 19:51

sign in windows, or sign up to boots online? they always email me and sent an invite in the post, there is also a sign in the window of boots tho

CountTo10 · 26/10/2007 19:53

I just take the saving and get the next gift!!! Too many people to buy for to start worrying about whether I go to the limit of my budget or not!! But then I do go out of my way to try and keep the amts down as much as poss otherwise it just gets out of hand!!!

nappyaddict · 28/10/2007 14:02

what about if say you bought a pair of shoes for someone that were in the sale. original cost £20 but you buy them for £8. do you just give them the shoes or find something else to make it up to £20.

I would decide what I wanted to get rather than a monetory amount - so if I get 3 for 2, all the better.

chocolateteapot · 28/10/2007 14:06

I decide what I want then scour the internet to find it as cheaply as possible. If along the way I find something that I think would be just as good but cheaper then I get that instead.
