Boxing Day sales

Who is going? I didn't plan to but afraid that the whole country goes into lockdown soon.

I believe retail workers should get Boxing Day off too and not have to spend their Christmas Day knowing they have to go into work at midnight/5am to set up a Boxing Day sale. Urgh. So I have never shopped on Boxing Day (real or online as someone has to pick and pack online too) and never will.

OldGreyBoots · 25/12/2020 20:59

@SingToTheSky ooh, what game did you get? I've been browsing Switch sales all day Grin

Mrsfussypants1 · 25/12/2020 21:18

No. Not online or instore. I can't remember the last time i haven't worked on a Boxing day, im off this year! I can't tell you how much it means to me, so on principle i wouldn't shop. Bring back January sales instead, not much happens in January so it would be something to make it stand out, though not in a covid year of course.

As someone that used to work in retail (albeit at university), I didn’t mind this. We used to get paid double until I left in 2017, so if anything there was competition for those bank holiday shifts as everyone wanted them! I worked at TOPSHOP so it was never that busy on Boxing Day though.

rollinggreenhills · 25/12/2020 21:34

@MillieVanilla

Can't Tier 4
Same.
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/12/2020 21:44

Tier 4 here too

I do need a new cooker but that will need to wait till after restrictions are lifted (so not anytime soon)

SingToTheSky · 25/12/2020 23:17

@OldGreyBoots I got Taiko no Tatsujin which is a silly drumming rhythm thing.

(On the topic of switch games though our family present this year was the ring fit game and it’s really fun :o)

OldGreyBoots · 25/12/2020 23:25

@SingToTheSky I have a couple of friends who love Taiko no Tatsujin, I'm tempted to give it a try but I have 8 other wishlist games on sale at the moment Grin thankfully got some eshop vouchers for Christmas so planning a splurge!

skankingpiglet · 25/12/2020 23:32

I've bought most of DD1's next size up clothes as I do every year. I did it online yesterday morning when the sales started though, so it hasn't interrupted today. In another year I would also have a browse around the shops for any missing items between Xmas and NY, but no chance as we're tier 4.
I wasn't able to get much in the end of Summer sales this year either as lockdown meant the dates were all over the place and I missed a few. I will now need to buy quite a lot for her at full price over the coming year.

We are also on the lookout for a new mattress and sofa in the sales. Both are in desperate need of replacement, and we have been holding out for a deal for most of the year.

Nonamesavail · 25/12/2020 23:33

Nope. Tier 4.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 25/12/2020 23:56

I might tbh.

I'm on my own and sick of my gardenless flat. A wander round the shops is quite appealing.

XmasLockdown · 26/12/2020 13:09

I went and it was quite busy. I got my Argos stuff and visited Lush sale. Apparently our cities rate is increasing so probably matter of time when everything closes.

PC monitor died just at the end of term so I ordered two to replace it that I'd had my eye on since just before Christmas (was pointless buying it then when I could wait a week and get a few quid off) and we've ordered the replacement sofa we were looking to get anyway - both done online. Stuff we would have been buying anyway - which is how we tend to do things - one year we ordered all the new kitchen appliances the second the sales went live, having done our research beforehand.

I don't tend to do "the sales" for the sake of it anyway... apart from may pick up the odd video game or book.

DominaShantotto · 26/12/2020 16:51

Oh and we need a new dining table sooner rather than later anyway (one leg keeps falling off so it's going up the priority list rapidly) so I'm keeping a loose eye in case one pops up as a bargain.

Plussizejumpsuit · 26/12/2020 16:53

I find boxing day sales pretty from to be honest. I just want to stay at home and eat! But this year the thought of being around all of those people is a massive no for me. I like boxing day to feel special.

MrsDoctorDear · 26/12/2020 23:09

I'm browsing online for a start on bargain gifts. I was late this year sorting out a few people's presents and don't want the stress again.
I've got a few bits from Boux Avenue and bargain toiletry bags from M&S.

Londonmummy66 · 26/12/2020 23:20

And you are one of the reasons why this would happen.

Jesus wept - we are in the middle of a pandemic and idiots like you feel the need to head off into a crowded shopping centre to "get Christmas bits for next year".

I hope you are really proud of yourself...

👏 I saw some of the pictures and videos of the sales yesterday and it was disgusting. My daughter is in Birmingham who just escaped going into tier 4 and the sight of the selfish morons piled into the shopping centre made me sick. Added to that coffee cups and other litter was strewn everywhere.🤬

Londonmummy66 Is a Boxing day sale important enough for you to risk your life, the lives of others and put more pressure on the NHS? Your actions don't just affect you. 😠

XmasLockdown · 27/12/2020 11:26

I went to Boxing Day sales because I needed to get something from Argos if we lockdown later on. Anyway the shops were open so why not. We are planning to eat out next week. We have been higher tiers while people in South have enjoyed bars and restaurants.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 27/12/2020 12:17

I've ordered a few bits online. Some crop tops from Lucy locket that I needed (only have 2 and wear in place of bras) and some leggings from kukubird. Got a large amount of Christmas money but will be saving as me and husband are key workers so no furlough and if we need time off to isolate we need to pay the bills somehow. Husband used the last of his holiday time when dd2 had to isolate from school.

The only place I went on boxing day was the covid walk in test centre as I developed a cough Christmas day evening.

Pipandmum · 27/12/2020 12:19

My son works part time in a shop and went in a couple hours early today to get things ready for the sale. So for his sake I hope there are shoppers out there! But me, no, last thing I want to do is go shopping.
