I’m supposed to be making Nigella’s ham in coke and glazing with treacle. But gammon does not have skin. I’ve boiled in coke, what shall I do now? Please help meeeee!

Does it have any fat on top? If so trim it to about 0.5cm and continue as per recipe, if not continue with the decoration and glaze but make sure the glaze covers the meat well so it won't dry out and check on it carefully to make sure it doesn't overcook or burn.

I don't bother with the glaze - I don't find it adds anything and is a faff.

Also - for years we have a Boxing Day brunch of sliced ham, fried eggs and leftover mash fried in butter so it goes like a hash brown. It's my fave part of Xmas!

Yes the glaze is really just to improve the look of the top once you have removed the skin and fat. You don't need it.

Extend the boil time by 20 mins and shorten the roast time. Do you have any wholegrain mustard?

Thank you 🎄

Hmm there’s barely any fat on it either. Maybe I’ll just hope it’s cooked now (1.4kg and had 1hr 45 on the hob ) and leave it as it is. It’s to eat cold so no need for presentation!

If it doesn't have the skin on it, does it have a layer of fat? If so if it is really thick I would trim off the excess, score the fat and add the glaze.

I love the glaze on a ham, it adds loads of flavour, I brush with English mustard pat on brown sugar and cook in oven for 15mins.
