Sprout recipes?

Made the Jamie Oliver one with Worcestershire sauce last year- was ok but a bit bitter...

Does anyone have a lovely way to prepare sprouts which doesn’t involve bacon?

I am following! I've two bags of the stuff 😭

I'll be roasting some after drizzling in garlic olive, but I'd love something more inspiring.

Paleodiet · 23/12/2020 12:03

Jay - add parmesan for roasting.

notacooldad · 23/12/2020 12:03

Tray bake with chestnuts and feta.
Make sure you oil the sprouts first as they get a bit dry.
Nigella does a double sprout stir fry that I modify because I don't like beanspriuts.
I finely chop raw sprouts on to my salads.

Ageee with PP that sprouts go well with chestnuts. recipes.sainsburys.co.uk/recipes/sides/brussels-sprouts-with-chestnut-crumble

They also go well with walnuts. This is fancy www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/creamy-brussels-sprout-gratin-with-walnuts/

Sorry you're too late, they should have been on to boil for a few days by now!

Don’t have any chestnuts in- not sure I want to brave Tesco for any now!

Orange is a good idea- will look at the stir fry idea too. Thanks.

Any other ideas welcome 😊

Slice them up really thin and stir fry them with a little oil and a little butter, garlic salt and pepper.

notacooldad · 23/12/2020 12:31

This is where I got the orange idea from.
I've tried most if these and they are good. I like them with pomegranate and walnuts. To be fair I like pretty much anything with pomegranate and walnuts!!

I'm very lightly blanching them then sautéing with chestnuts and pancetta, serve with grated parmesan

cactusisblooming · 23/12/2020 14:19

Steam first, then saute some ginger in butter, add the sprouts, a pinch of sugar sugar and some soy sauce, leave them to get coated in the sauce and soften further.

This sounds incredible! Will definitely make this, thank you Smile

We go for this every year and they get eaten:

Peel them, cut into quarters (just roughly), add to onion skins and stick them in your compost heap.

Brussel sprout gratin. Its actually lovely, make it every year. Sprouts, bacon, cream, breadcrumbs and parmesan.

LH1987 · 23/12/2020 18:57

Probably an obvious one but my go to is fried in olive oil with black pepper, bacon lardons and pine nuts. Delicious!

Though Brussels sprouts gratin sounds intriguing @Huugi, I may try it next year.
