Turkey damaged packaging

Just had my delivery from Sainsbury's. As I put the turkey in the fridge I noticed there is a hole in the plastic bag. I suppose it could have happened when they picked the order or maybe the delivery man did it. What if it happened two days ago? I'm pretty sure the damaged packing will affect the bacterial growth or am I being dramatic? Cooking on 25th.

It’ll be fine.

Oh I wouldn't be happy about that. They are in sealed bags for a reason...can you call them?

Wherehavetheteletubbiesgone · 22/12/2020 09:52

I wouldn't worry it's the 22nd today so only 3 days.

Wherehavetheteletubbiesgone · 22/12/2020 09:53

I thought they were in sealed bags because the juices/blood goes everywhere if they weren't.

I wouldn't be happy with that and would contact them.

This happened to us. The turkey was off. Luckily I noticed the smell on Christmas eve and dashed to the shop who were happy to exchange it. They said once the seal is damaged the meat starts to to deteriote

I definitely wouldn’t be happy with that, I wouldn’t risk being without a turkey if you go to cook it and realise it’s off on Christmas Day. Definitely ring them, I’m sure they’ll be happy to sort it out for you.

superstar84 · 22/12/2020 09:59

I'd ring them and see if you can get another one if they are delivering nearby

Magissa · 22/12/2020 10:07

Thanks for your help everyone. I phoned and they have refunded me. Told me to either take it to our Sainsbury's local for disposal or dispose of it myself. Seems such a shame and so wasteful. I just don't want to risk giving us food poisoning.

I'd cook it today then freeze into slices and go and get a replacement for Xmas day

bestbefore · 22/12/2020 15:21

@Magissa - yep I'd cook it today and then freeze it. If it smells ok!
