Meals for between Christmas and New Year

I wasn’t sure whether to post this in Christmas or food but what meals do you all eat Christmas week? I want something a little bit more special than we would normally eat as we’re not going anywhere or seeing anyone this year but my mind has gone blank! So far

Christmas Day- is a roast dinner.
Boxing Day- buffet with nibbles and cheeses.
Sunday- sausage plait with homemade puff pastry, roasties and veg.

Monday to Wednesday- who knows!

Thursday NY Eve will be either a take away or party food.

There won’t be any leftovers so things like turkey curry are out. Thanks 😊

It's the same here. Not going out or having people over this year. The year's been crazy, to say the least. But, we're trying to stay positive nonetheless.
I've been looking for new christmas week dinner ideas too, to try and get a warm festive feel this coming week in our home, now that we'll be on all on our own.
Given that I have two well-grown boys and a hubby with a monstrous appepite, I'll certainly be having a stuffed turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy on christmas eve. Apart from this, I've decided to go with Rosemary Garlic Pork Roast with a side of roasted mushrooms and veggies the night after. Then, I've gotta try that spicy Indian chicken curry with rice from an online recipe I'd bookmarked earlier with my new Instant pot. Excited how this would turn out! Yet to decide from honey mustard glazed ham, maple mustard roasted turkey thighs and porcini rubbed beef rib roast as my main dishes for further nights this weekend.
Hope everyone has a good time,
Merry Christmas :)

Mine is a bit random because I'm on my own but
Christmas Eve - cheese fondue, meats, pickles and bread
Christmas Day - Indian takeaway
Boxing Day - making pork chilli and will have some as nachos with dips

After that I've got a pizza, leftover cheese and meats

Fivemoreminutes1 · 22/12/2020 08:23

Garlic steak with triple cheese and bacon potato dauphinois and sautéed leeks
Slow cooked honey roast ham with creamy cabbage and mash

Christmas day - Turkey roast
Boxing day - Gammon, leftovers from Christmas eve, pickles and part baked bread.
27th - Turkey curry and rice
28th - not sure yet, will see what we have leftover
29th - Fish, beans and chips
30th - Tolenti pasta with homemade sauce
31st - Party food
1st - Leftover Party food

This will probably change, depending on what we have leftover.

There's something about this time of year that always makes me want a glazed ham juicy cut into chunks and served with slabs of buttered brown bread (sourdough or rye), mustard and pickled cucumber.

Too bad I'm veggie now

Friendsoneuptown · 22/12/2020 09:45

I like 3-4 days of not cooking so will often get a ready meal from Marks and Spencer. I will sometimes pick up frozen meals from the Cook range at our local farm shop for the freezer m

Plenty bread, pate, cheese and soup for during the day.

On the 27th, I think I'll make some sort of curry.

Other than that, no idea. I always fancy spices and lots of vege, so probably something like:
a Thai vege curry with pok choy and tofu
something vaguely Mexican - quesadillas or fajitas or tacos probably
some sort of vegetable soup with bread and cheese
some sort of vegetable pie

@EggnogAndAMincepie Xmas Sad are you ok? If you are struggling for food, is there anywhere in your local area that can help?

Quite a few places around us are doing meals/parcels for those struggling. Have a look on your local facebook page.

Foodbanks should also be open -might be basic but better than nothing.

ServeTheServants · 23/12/2020 12:51

@EggnogAndAMincepie I’m so sorry to hear that. Where are you based? Hoping I might be local so I can drop something to you

ODFOx · 23/12/2020 22:09

@EggnogAndAMincepie Call your local food bank tomorrow morning. We've been out today dropping packs to loads of folk caught out with no food in after the travel rules have changed . They will certainly be able to help you out with meals for the next week. Good luck to you as bd Merry Christmas

TreacleHart · 23/12/2020 22:13

We always have a few days of eating more simply to counteract the previous days. One day might be jacket potatoes and salad and another homemade soup and crusty bread.

RomaineCalm · 23/12/2020 22:27

We'll be having Christmas dinner and leftover type meals for the 25th/26th/27th.

After that I'm planning...

28th - Prawn curry
29th - Burritos with plenty of guacamole, sour cream, chilli etc.
30th - Moules frites if I can get them from the fish shop
31st - Hopefully takeout

Love Christmas food but after about 3 days we are desperate for something spicy/different.

EggnogAndAMincepie · 24/12/2020 14:19

Thanks guys I'll be ok Smile won't hurt to miss a meal or too and shift a few pounds and I'll be having my dinner tomorrow and Boxing Day so I'll make sure I eat plenty. I get paid next week so all is not lost. I did consider a food bank but it said you need a voucher or something I'm not sure. My OH had tried all week to get £30 to me but because we live 98 miles from each other it's difficult. He doesn't have internet banking to transfer it over and every hint he's dropped at work to come here has being ignored. I often wonder how when I earn a fairly good wage do I spend 1-2 weeks every month either living off dried toast or nothing at all. Christmas hasn't helped this time and nor did me losing 10 days pay and 3 days holiday pay due to me having to self isolate.

But to bring cheer back to the thread here's what I'm hoping I'll be eating tomorrow!!

Bacon sandwich with a small glass of Buck's Fizz cos I'm working later on
Turkey
Mashed potatoes
Cauliflower cheese
Carrots
Parsnips
Stuffing
Roast potatoes
Pigs in blankets
Sprouts
Gravy
Cranberry sauce
Definitely going to miss my Grandma's sherry trifle this year though Sad

CarolinaWeeper · 24/12/2020 17:45
