Too much for a stocking?

When I was a little kid we used to get a pillow case at the end of the bed filled with stuff. I remember it being loads but not sure if that’s just distorted happy Christmas memories. Must remember to ask my Mum but I remember her say she always got us too much.

DD has just turned 5 and I’m worried I’ve got too much for her stocking, which is actually a sack and is way bigger than I realised when I got it online a few years ago. I’ll list

Colouring book (simpler form of adult colouring to stop her using mine!)
Hair clips
Card game
Bath bomb
Book
Soft toy reindeer (only thing she asked for)
Small Space model
Paint pencils
Make your own catapult
Make your own dragon fly thing

So it’s ten things. Plus some chocolate. Does this sound ok? It’s not actually going to look much in the ridiculous sack thing but not sure if I have time to get a proper stocking as in wales lockdown so would have to buy online.

What goes in your kids stockings.

I think it sounds fine.

We had a stocking shaped stocking growing up. Me and my brothers were allowed to open them as soon as we were all awake whilst my parents slept so they tended to put things in to keep us amused for a couple of hours before we went down for breakfast and tree presents.

They'd usually include variations of

Chocolate coins
Novelty bath bomb/wash stuff
A card game - top trumps or that ilk
A yoyo or similar small toy
Colouring/sticker book
Boglin hand puppets
An easy enough mini craft kit
Fancy pens/pencils
A glider

And a satsuma, that would be found moldering under the bed at some point in the new year.

I remember one year when yoyos were a Big Thing at school they got us all Black Mamba yoyos (inadvertently stumbling on The Cool) and were most chagrinned when the piles of more expensive and thought out gifts were somewhat neglected over the Christmas period in favour of what, to them, was a cheap last minute stocking filler...

Sorry, I'm reminiscing now! I think my stockings were my favourite bit of Christmas.

But I think yours sounds absolutely fine

Ah thanks for your replies. Sounds like it’s in the middle of what others do then. I try hard not to buy too much plastic tat so find it hard to get stocking fillers that aren’t over the top. She has sensitive skin so can’t go too out on the bath stuff. But sounds like I did ok this year!

I know we should do us and I’m not fussed on what other people do really but I was having a confidence crisis! And this thread has shown everyone does it differently and at all end of the scale. Which is great. How boring if we were all the same.

I definitely want to get rid of the sack. I had no idea it was a sack when I got it just thought it was a fabric bag. I washed it last year and it shrunk a bit so that’s good. But will switch to a nice stocking next year as it’s more traditional. Not that I gave a crap what my presents came in as a kid. That pillow case was pure joy! And we all need a bit of joy this year. Aw this thread has got me excited now. Thanks all.
