I've not bought any presents yet! ShockI have some ideas for nephews etc but nothing for adult dc!

I can't be alone?

I've got food & tree sorted.

Mumsnet always seems to have people who've bought and wrapped everything by July! Confused

I had done all mine by April !
Just kidding ! I am not as well organised this year due to having a child bouncing backwards and forwards from hospital.
I can't really get into it after the awful year we have had and many others feel the same I think.
Just do what you can and keep it simple is my suggestion this year .
Merry Christmas x

Thank you! Tough times indeed! My Dh is shielding so haven't been to shops since March! Can't get inspired! Happy Christmas to you too @flapjackfairy

My child is shielding as well so I hear you believe me. Endless months of being stuck at home punctuated by hospital stays where there is an extra frisson of stress thanks to the fear of picking up the dreaded virus. I wish we could all fast forward a few months and resume life !
So yes it is tough but we are trying to appreciate what is truly important . And material.things are not really that important in the grand scheme of things.
We are just going to enjoy some nice food and good tv hopefully with little pressure this year to pull off an epic day.
I am just crossing my fingers that we will actually be all together at home on christmas day. That will be gift enough .
So.enjoy your christmas time. Hope you all stay well.and here's to a better time ahead x

Just do family gifts instead of individual gifts for parent & child. Lots of great board games about and Morrisons are doing Christmas Experience boxes. For eg. movie night treats, baking boxes etc. I'd be tempted to order those & have it delivered directly.

Maybe next year have a chat about scaling back & buying for children only to take the pressure off you all.

I'm giving money to adult DC and for DGC. I've declined to put my tree up or any decorations this year as nobody is coming round the house (and I couldn't be arsed). I'm cooking Christmas Dinner at my mum's house for 4 adults 2 DC but I've already bought everything ready prepared to go in the oven. Any stocking fillers will be unwrapped but placed into a gift bag amongst tissue paper. This is the best year I've ever had in terms of prep! I'm feeling completely laid back about it all, everyone else's knows what's happening and it should go off like a Sunday dinner but with 'trimmings'.

pinkksugarmouse · 12/12/2020 13:57

I am certainly not a July Christmas shopper but I couldn't leave it until this late either. If you are ordering online then you need to be aware of delivery dates too.

pinkksugarmouse · 12/12/2020 13:59

Catsup. I can't imagine not having my tree up. For me it's the best thing about Christmas. It sounds like you are giving Christmas a miss this year.

tobee · 12/12/2020 19:34

Thanks for the replies.

I've now ordered a few things. I think the fact that we're not going to be seeing anyone this year hasn't helped with not feeling the urgency. ConfusedMight possibly just be dropping stuff off and maybe a quick distanced wave? Confused

My kids will get some stuff but mostly will likely ask for money. Dh and I don't give each other Christmas presents much these days. More likely go for a meal or get tickets to something in the new year. Have to put that on the back burner!

I'm definitely going to be decorating and eating. Sparkly lights and candles to the fore! Grin

I have done precisely nothing. I haven't bought a single gift, sorted any food or got the tree out yet and I may not do any of those things. The kids are adults (except for foster baby and he'll be easy to sort), they know our situation so they will understand what's going on.

bloodywhitecat · 12/12/2020 19:47

No, I tell a lie. I have bought DP some noise cancelling headphones, he starts chemo on Christmas Eve for bile duct cancer.

tobee · 12/12/2020 21:39

Yes bloodywhitecat and I hope the chemo goes as well as it can and I'm sure the headphones will be deemed an excellent choice. Hope foster baby handover went ok despite the emotional affect on you all. Thanks
