The little things....

So I know that shops are open around Christmas - but I don't want to go out! I want to get the jobs done on Christmas Eve - pick up M&S order, get the turkey - go for a nice meal in the evening and then home until after Boxing Day (save for the nice Christmas walks!!).

So I'm thinking of things now that I might need to get - I'm not talking about the obvious stuff, I'm talking about nurofen, tin foil, batteries - the stuff we know we need but invariably forget in the grand scheme of things!

So, can anyone think of anything? It might help some of the rest of us!

You are talking about being home for two days.

Tinfoil and batteries usually essential for Christmas Day regardless. Nurofen most people have some in the medicine cabinet.

littleblackno · 11/12/2020 08:20

Milk. I always underestimate how much i need and how nuch extra i mat need.
But pp is right its only 2 days has there never been a time when you have gone for 2 days without going out?

princessbear80 · 11/12/2020 08:20

Bread, milk and butter! These things never last long enough in my house.

BefuddledPerson · 11/12/2020 08:21

Well we have stocked up on ice-cream Grin

HerbErtlinger · 11/12/2020 08:24

Gravy granules, kitchen roll, tea bags

I like to have a loaf of bread and some milk in the freezer but our local shop is open so don't mind popping out for 10 minutes for some peace and quiet Grin

Hohomerryxmas · 11/12/2020 08:48

Squash/cordial/mixers. I find I run out of these quiet quickly over Xmas. As PP said, bread is another. Make sure you have enough washing up liquid/dishwasher tabs.

niki26 · 11/12/2020 08:49

I only gave nurofen as an example because we have run out and I'm writing a list to remind myself of what I need to pick up! I'm quite an organised person and remember last Christmas getting the tin foil out and then realising that I didn't have as much as I thought....

Sorry - I appreciate that essentially it's two days but what I mean is that I'm trying to think of things I'll need for those two days!

Last year we ran out of nappies (despite having opened a new packet on the 23rd) by Christmas lunch as DD had picked up a tummy bug on the last day of nursery. So, if you have anybody in nappies then make sure you have plenty in!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/12/2020 08:58

Lightbulbs. This is partly a reminder to myself that I used the last one in the box earlier in the week.
Breakfast cereals
Wine

Imsayingnothing · 11/12/2020 09:21

An extra box of chocolates or biscuits or nice bottle of wine, for the people that turn up unexpectedly and bring you a gift! Mind you that might not happen this year.

niki26 · 11/12/2020 09:33

Yes defo nappies! Thank you @Thegirlhasnoname - will make sure I'm stocked up!

Bin bags
Recycling bags
Food caddy bags
As appropriate! You will need loads.

Also ice if you are an ice buying family.

prisscalledwanda · 11/12/2020 09:37

Lemons and limes for drinks, smoked salmon, etc etc

Cherryrainbow · 11/12/2020 11:57

For our baby im making sure we have plenty of nappies, formula and wipes. For the kids stuff like batteries, vaseline for sore noses and lips and calpol. For us plenty of mixers to go with the drinks. Also for me - razors to do my legs haha
