Very thick socks!

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar 'problem' and can help me not buy the wrong thing.

My DS 16 had a pair of boots for his birthday - very expensive to me but hey ho. They were a bit big but he insisted they were fine with two pairs of socks!

Does anyone know where I can get socks for him that will make his boots fit? I know I can get workwear socks, extra thick socks etc but just hoping that if someone has bought before and they worked, they could pass on their wisdom. Could be a case of trial and error.

Have you tried looking for hiking boot socks in outdoor shops? If not, now about some insoles as well?

I wear ‘heat holders’ when I’m out walking or doing outdoor photography, they are quite thick and feel nice and soft.
