Not sure what to get my sister and her partner so thought of trying to a restaurant type meal at home. We can't visit each other indoors due to covid restrictions, but she loves coming to us for a meal normally as they're not huge cooks but like their food. I don't want to create any work for them, just make it special.

So I was thinking some kind of meal with excellent ingredient and instruction how to hear up, wine, candle and a homemade pudding.

Does this sound a bit rubbish?

We've tried loads of cook-at-home meals from London restaurants this year. They do feel really special even if you cook yourself - the produce is always amazing and have sauces and sides you might not do yourself (or get from M&S Hmm)

Ed Smith pulled together a huge list of great restaurants doing DIY takeout www.rocketandsquash.com/eating-out-in-in-the-time-of-covid-19-takeaway-and-delivery/

The Tommy Banks 'Made in Oldstead' food boxes are very good and can be purchased in gift voucher form. They're about £50 I think for a 3 course meal for 2 people.

Well i would love it. Meals from restaurants can be lovely, but if you are a good cook and are using really good ingredients your meal is likely to be much better.

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 10/12/2020 20:18

I know I haven't been keen on the idea but I have to say, you're really thoughtful.

Thanks for all the ideas, going to do some research. Thanks DontWalk, I appreciate a Tesco ready meal and a tealight doesn't sound too appealing!

There’s a restaurant near us that are doing it- all the ingredients and instructions on how to cook and present the dishes. Their food is incredible- I’d be made up to get something like that as a gift!

I think it could be really lovely if done well.

We have sent people desserts for their birthday via Uber eats and they've been really well received, obviously yours would be a little more sophisticated.
