help please. I am looking for the original stories of the disney characters, particularly princesses for a gift. Anyone know where I can find something like this or what the original stories are? I'm clueless as I have boys and a girl but my girl is a baby and so not at that age yet. Thanks

Do you want books?

Mummydaydreams · 09/12/2020 20:41

I bought some Disney books about Moana/ Mulan/ Frozen from The Works shop in October. Might be worth asking there. Not sure if they are the original stories though.

Most are based on classic fairy tales. Is that what you mean? eg Aladdin is spun from a story in 1001 Nights (an orientalist fantasy compilation, The Arabian Nights), and Sleeping Beauty is by Charles Perrault via the Brothers Grimm, and Beauty and the Beast is by an 18th century Salonniere I think. Unfortunately most original Fairy takes are definitely NOT child suitable 😂🤣

Ooh if it’s for a teen look at the twisted tales. They’re Disney but with a twist!

livingthegoodlife · 09/12/2020 21:15

We have a copy of the brothers Grimm original fairy tales. It's gruesome. And old fashioned. Bit curiously interesting. Maybe that?

Thank you. I'll have a look x

Hans Christian Andersen - Little Mermaid, Snow Queen (Frozen)

Brothers Grimm.

Warning - all extremely violent and gruesome, but original.

Otherwise search for YA novels based on fairytales.

CorianderQueen · 09/12/2020 21:49

Oh and Peter Pan is a full book, J.M. Barrie

freezedriedromance · 09/12/2020 21:53

For a teenager I'd try Twisted Tales. Disney stories with a darker vibe.
