Does anyone know where i can get info about lego sets for a 9 yr old that is not based round paranormal or ghost stuff ? My grandson is just getting interested in lego but is imaginative but easily has nightmares and I prefer to avoid paranormal if I can,

The lego website? Most is either a random set of bricks or themed around cars, architecture, city sets, technic models etc

Varjakpaw · 06/12/2020 15:11

I would think it harder to find than avoid. HTH.

SlippersForFlippers · 06/12/2020 15:11

The Lego website, you can search by age or themes.

There is a whole Lego city theme which had nothing to do with ghosts. I just built a little ice-cream van, it's cute.

Floralnomad · 06/12/2020 15:13

Just look at the lego shop UK online , agree with pp that it would be harder to find things in those genres than avoid them .

SlippersForFlippers · 06/12/2020 15:22

I think it's only the hidden side range which is a haunted house type theme.

IPeedInThePool · 06/12/2020 15:24

Get the standard set of bricks

GreyishDays · 06/12/2020 15:25

Agree a big box is the best as a start

I've never even seen a paranormal lego set (I'd love one) Grin

Surely it's much much easier to find a non paranormal one. Maybe these were left over from halloween.

BikeRunSki · 06/12/2020 15:30

Most Lego is not about ghosts.
We have accumulated £100s if not £1000s worth of Lego in the last 10 years. Only the Harry Potter Stuff could be vaguely interpreted as paranormal.

The Creative boxes of plain bricks or City series would be a good place to start. Lots of info on the Lego website.

AlwaysLatte · 06/12/2020 15:32

Are you talking about ghostbusters and Harry Potter Lego especially? There's loads more unghosty Lego - Lego city is great with lots of vehicles etc and a lot of it fits brilliantly onto an IKEA Lack coffee table (my 10 year old has filled it with Harry Potter Lego now abs it looks great) or there are shops etc that you can fit together.

LegoPandemic · 06/12/2020 15:33

Star Wars would work for a 9 year old and isn’t about ghosts!
There are lots of cool sets, depending on budget.
Festive eg elf clubhouse
Ideas eg Treehouse
Modular- start doing a street scene

NoWordForFluffy · 06/12/2020 15:36

There's a ridiculous amount of non-ghost Lego. Did you even Google before asking?

What kind of things does he like? I'd Google '[interest] Lego' and see if anything pops up.

justchecking1 · 06/12/2020 15:38

She's probably talking about the hidden side range. It comes with an app and when you use your phone on it, ghosts appear and there are tasks to do to catch them (for the PP who was interested).

Pretty much all other lego is non paranormal OP, so you can chose anything that doesn't say "Hidden Side"

thelegohooverer · 06/12/2020 19:14

You just need to avoid certain sets:
Hidden side is the main one
Ninjago has a few skeleton warriors
Harry Potter if magic is an issue

For a beginner I’d look for the City range (blue boxes) or the Creator (yellow) range. The 3 in 1 builds are very good value.

LizzieVereker · 06/12/2020 19:17

I now desperately want some paranormal Lego.

Lovemusic33 · 06/12/2020 19:43

I would get something like the fire station, airport, bus station?

There’s loads of good sets to chose from, we don’t own any that have ghosts in them, though the hidden castle looks really good.

Lovemusic33 · 06/12/2020 19:44

Can also recommend the ‘speed’ sets (cars).

scrivette · 06/12/2020 20:01

We have a ridiculous amount of Lego as DH loves it and don't have any ghost Lego.

At 9 he may like some of the Speed Champion sets (the cars).
