Buck’s Fizz and children

Can you help me settle a debate. At what age do you or would you let your child have a small glass of Bucks Fizz on Christmas Day?

I’m not a drinker and a glass of Buck’s Fizz on Christmas is the most I have so it seems crazy considering it to me, but my husband recalls drinking it very young.

My eldest DD is 8 and honestly I can’t imagine giving her alcohol. She doesn’t like fizzy drinks anyway so wouldn’t want a Buck’s Fizz. I have let my 5 year old try some of my alcohol free beer before though (she was curious what it tasted like so I let her have a sip).

As to when they will be allowed their own glass of something like Buck’s Fizz I guess mid-teens. They could have a sip of mine before that probably but not their own glass. I don’t want to make a big deal out of it but I also don’t agree with giving children alcohol.

@wasgoingmadinthecountry

Just saying to all those of you who say 16, you do know what goes on at 6th form parties don't you?

Not saying it's good, and I'd never drink in the morning and Buck's Fizz isn't to my taste but a glass at Christmas at 16??

I used to drink red wine with meals at 7 or 8, and i used to always ask for a sip of my mum's brandy. But it was the 70s, a period of benign neglect and freedom.

I let mine have a small glass at about the same age with a special meal. Neither of mine now 15 and 19 drink, go out and drink or drink with friends. They occasionally have a glass of wine and the youngest likes disarono, as do I. Its no big thing. I rarely drink. We will have a drink on Christmas day, but none of us like champagne. I think if you are relaxed about it then you cause less issues later.

I think my parents let me from around the age of 12. But then I'm an alcoholic. 🤷‍♀️
