Biggles001 · 03/12/2020 13:28

Can anyone recommend any board games that are just as good with 2 people as a whole family?
We have (and enjoy) labyrinth, monopoly, dobble and uno
Many thanks!

Carcassonne is good with two (it's got DH and I through many an evening). We've also got Forbidden Island recently, which we're really enjoying.

New games we have enjoyed this year are Castles of Burgundy, wingspan, Scotland Yard and we have also got back into Chess.

Seven Wonders Duel is good and I have heard good things about code word Duel as well.

Agricola, Viticulture and Caverna. There is also a 2 player (card based) version of Catan.

Have a look at boardgamegeek for reviews.

Taboo or Scattergories

Chess is a brilliant two player game, though not a family game obviously.
I always recommend the Irish card game 25 - a very satisfying mix of luck and skill and it can be played with 2 players or in a bigger group.
And, sorry that these are all so old fashioned, but if you can get your hands on The Business Game - Mine a Million I quite enjoy it. It’s very simple and slow to get going and takes a couple of hours to play. Great for a rainy day.

It’s probably obvious from my suggestions that I’m often playing against children when it’s only two, so I have a preference for games that are easy for a beginner but can also be played at a much higher level too

Cluedo now do a version for 2 players. I had that last year and it was great with 2 players, became like a game of poker with trying to bluff!

Trivial pursuit is good with 2 players too.

I seem to remember Balderdash can be played with 2.

Sequence is one of the best 2 player games I’ve ever played. 5 other friends have bought it after playing with us. It is as good for 3,4 or 6 people too.

Thank you all!!

I'm always looking out for board games for 2, because my husband is my main gaming partner (when I can persuade him) so this is my list:

Azul

Kingdomino (play 7X7 grid with two)

Qwirkle

Scrabble

Patchwork (don't be put out by cover, it is amazing game, and now they have wonderful Christmas edition)

Seven Wonders Duel

Ticket to Ride Europe

Carcassone

Rummikub

Enjoy!
