Pizza for the BBQ

DH got a new BBQ over the summer, and I was thinking of getting him some accessories for Xmas. I was thinking of a pizza oven affair, but I don't really know if we can make do with a decent pizza stone straight on the grill, and then lower the lid (it's a Weber gas BBQ), or whether it's much better to have one of the little pizza houses that goes over the top (like this one: www.amazon.co.uk/Hacienda-Steel-Pizza-Oven-Black/dp/B07J3GBHJF/ref=psdc_4295702031_t1_B07RRCBQ8Y)?tag=mumsnetforu03-21.

Don't really need/want to buy a whole separate pizza oven, I think I'd prefer to see if this got any use first. Weber sells pizza stones only, which seems to indicate that would be sufficient, but would love to know what the MN hive brain says!!.

I can't comment on that one, but we have this pizza oven. I know you said you didn't want a whole new one, but it's really great - and quite small and easy to pack away. One thing to note - the one you've linked apparently takes an hour to heat up - the one we have is ready to go in ten minutes. I was really cross with DH when he bought it, but I must admit it's excellent.

Thanks @Pootles34. A full on oven definitely not in the budget this year, kids have asked for expensive gifts this year 😂. I didn't spot that hour heat up, I thought it said only 10 mins? Because it's a gas BBQ, assuming heating should be fairly straightforward rather than wood fired which could be more temperamental...

I've just bought DH a blaze box for our BBQ. I got it for £50 on black Friday and it has good reviews

Pootles34 · 03/12/2020 14:12

Its in the comments - I assume they mean the pizza takes ten minutes, but it needs an hour to get the oven up to temp?

Having said that, when you make pizzas you generally leave them to prove for a good hour or so first anyway so it's not a quick business!

Pootles34 · 03/12/2020 14:12

Sorry I obviously mean reviews, not comments!

CoronaIsWatching · 03/12/2020 14:14

I wouldn't bother. How often is it realistically going to get used? Imagine the uproar on here if DH bought you an oven for xmas

Voiceofreason92 · 03/12/2020 14:19

We have one very similar to that. We used it all the time in the summer, it cooked really nice pizzas.

XiCi · 03/12/2020 14:19

We have guests over regularly and use the BBQ a lot so ours will get used and DH likes bits of kit like that. It a novelty really, not a main present, hardly think he'll see it as me wanting to chain him to the kitchen (or bbq) Grin

Can't help but glad I clicked as now i definitely want the blaze box! 😆 can't wait for pizza at the campsite next summer!

EmmaStone · 03/12/2020 17:00

OK, thanks everyone. DH does.not.cook, but loves a bit of BBQ kit, so I'm not worried he's going to think I'm tying him to the kitchen. He's also getting other 'nice' things, so this is just a bit of a surprise. We're lucky enough to have moved last year and inherited quite a large garden, perfect for entertaining, and (hopefully) next summer will be the first time we can actually have friends over properly (although we managed a couple of small gatherings this summer, it was a bit weird, and people weren't really doing BBQs), so although it might be a bit of a novelty, I think quite a fun one.

I think I'll give it a go!

Definitely OP. I think my DH will love his and it will definitely be used a fair bit.
