Hi,

I have 3 children age 12,7 and 3 months. My 7 year old still believes in santa or so I thought. Yesterday he said he wishes I would get him presents and not santa. How would you take that?

  • He doesn't believe and wants confirmation?
  • He does believe but thinks it would be more special from me
  • it was a throwaway comment, make santa still happen and keep the magic alive?

What would you do?

Do say to the children that all the presents are from Santa?
Or do they get some that they know are from you too?

LadyCatStark · 29/11/2020 09:55

As above, do you say any of the presents are from you?

What does Santa get? If Santa gets everything then it may be that he's just been talking on the playground and hears that kids get presents off Santa and parents, whereas he only gets presents off Santa and wonders why his parents don't get him anything?

I'm not a mum yet, but talking from experience (and probably sounding like a brat!), I questioned my parents as to why Santa bought all of my gifts. They then said they sent money to Santa.

However it wasn't that I didn't believe, it was just because I thought my parents were getting away with buying me nothing!

Thank you for responding. We say all of them are from Santa so maybe we will say a present or so is from us as well this year do you think?

Perhaps don’t raise the conversation or say anything to him but do something me presents from Santa and some from you, and given his comment perhaps one of the presents from you be something he really really wants. Far easier to gradually move on from Santa over the years if do it this way

I wouldn't change too much as that is the way it's been. Right up until I stopped believing Santa still bought everything (and the we send money was a fine excuse for me).

In fact, my parents still write from Santa on my presents (I'm 31...).

Lol @1sttimemumtobe21 I love that x

My 7yo writes a letter to Santa with 5 things on - Santa brings 1 + stocking and the rest (if doable) come from us.

I'd agree with others that your DS has overheard others and think you don't bother bless him. Take some of the credit 😁

I think he's probably cottoned on to the fact that christmas is about giving and wondering why his parents don't get him a present.

I'd do most things from santa but maybe a present or two (something decent) could be from you?
