My SIL has asked for something for the house for Christmas. Any ideas? Budget around £10...

Set of happy spatula and spoons.

My friend bought me some and they bring me sheer joy.

What's their current place like, what do they like and what do they not have?

If someone asked for a home gift, I'd probably go for a nice cushion (or a pair, if I could find that in budget) but maybe candlesticks or a vase if I thought they didn't have that kind of thing and would appreciate it.

Amerimoon · 27/11/2020 22:15

I’d hate to receive a cushion as a gift - I like my cushions to match and wouldn’t want a random one! Plus it’s not something easy to hide so it needs to be perfectly to my taste. For a gift, I’d rather something that goes away in the kitchen drawer/ a cupboard such as a nice chopping board.

cavatron · 27/11/2020 22:19

A nice reed diffuser!

nemeton · 27/11/2020 22:23

@MonkeyPuddle Those are so fab! I know someone who would love those, thanks!

Lovemusic33 · 27/11/2020 22:28

Wax melts burner and some melts?
A picture (i frame posters, frames are cheap in the range)?
A fruit bowl (TK Max doe some nice ones)?
Utensils holder?

NeedToKnow101 · 27/11/2020 22:37

A throw for the sofa.

jocktamsonsbairn · 27/11/2020 22:44

Aldi have some lovely scented candles and Reed diffusers - think they are a bit of a Jo Malone copy but smell gorgeous!

I would like a Christmas cushion that suits my decor.

A really special Christmas ornament/decoration. Then if they don't really like it it only comes out at Christmas!! Plus some of my favourite gifts from pupils have been things I would never have thought of and I love putting them up every year as I remember each person.

Christmas coasters.

Something useful for the kitchen.

Really lovely Christmassy bathroom towels.

Divebar · 27/11/2020 22:44

Anthropologie have 25% off today as I dare say other brands will too. I think it’s a step up from bog standard high street brands and has some lovely decorative homewares. I also like Rocket St George and West Elm for nice pieces - hard to know though without knowing their taste. £10 is not a very big budget so I can’t see how you’re going to get a chopping board or cushion but may find a small item which is nice quality. Alternatively use them for inspiration and then look in TK Maxx for similar / same things. I have had expensive soap from a Liberty and seen it for half the price there.

Emma Bridgewater tea towel

LizzieMacQueen · 27/11/2020 23:17

Can you buy a reed diffuser set for £10? I'd think it would smell a bit naff at that price.

I'd go for a tea towel.

MonkeyPuddle · 28/11/2020 00:00

You’re welcome @nemeton they make me smile every time I open the utensil drawer!

I've used the Aldi one and it was lovely. DM had a Jo Malone and no one could tell the difference so she now buys the Aldi version. It's up to you if you want to spend more.,
Divebar · 28/11/2020 00:29

I’ve had candles from Aldi and although I thought they looked good I found the fragrance harsh. They gave me a sore throat every time I lit it. Perhaps Etsy might be a good option - a simple handmade beeswax candle for example.

SockDrawer · 28/11/2020 00:40

Love those @MonkeyPuddle !

bananaboats · 28/11/2020 09:08

I'd like a candle or diffuser too or the m&s apothecary range is nice the hand wash & lotion are £5 each

I've always been impressed with the scent throw from wax lyrical products which are frequently available around the £10 price point. I've seen them in Morrisons and Dunelm amongst other places

Thanks everyone! I know, I’m a bit embarrassed about the budget. It has been a hard year this year money wise, and my DH has a lot of siblings. There are some good ideas here, I will have a look. Thank you

The spatulas are awesome!

Get those OP and wrap them in some beautiful ribbon

LizzieMacQueen · 28/11/2020 11:52

Cheers @anibendod I admit I'm a sucker for the Jo Malone and White Company ones but that's largely packaging and excellent marketing.

weepingwillow22 · 28/11/2020 11:54

You can pick up more expensive branded reed diffusers quite cheaply at tkmax.

Cleanerdilemma · 28/11/2020 11:55

Don’t be at all embarrassed about the budget, it is what it is. I thought it was really rude that someone asked if it was secret Santa. Surely everyone understands it has been a tough year for lots of people?? Or they should anyway.

Moving on, I think the Aldi candles are lovely and would go for them or the smiley spoons wrapped in a lovely bow.
