Please could you share your recipes? We have ‘festive cookie cutters’ but when I’ve made cookies before they tend to involve splodges of dough which then spread into indistinct circles!

Thank you!

I will try to dig out a recipe later.
But the most important thing for the biscuits to keep their shape is to CHIlLL!

After you have cut out the shapes, put them on a baking tray in the fridge. Around an hour should he fine, minimum 30 minutes.
Then put them in a preheated oven.

Here is my vintage recipe from first Christmas with eldest child in 1982
In ounces sorry as it was passed to me vintage style! I usually triple the recipe but here is the basic for about 12 biscuits

Mix together in a processor or similar,
4oz marg or butter, 4 oz sugar, 8 oz flour ( any), 1 oz cocoa until crumbly mixture. Add about 2 tablespoons of golden syrup until all combined. Adjust texture with more syrup if needed.
It should now resemble a ball of dough, more solid than pastry, playdo etc.
I roll between cling film to stop it being too sticky. Roll out to less than 1 cm thickness, cut out and cook on greaseproof paper for 10/11 minutes about gas mark 5/6
When they come out of the oven they will be slightly soft but crisp up as they cool.
They are a delicious bourbon type of biscuit.
Make them every year, this year with grandchildren.

Not Christmassy but Nigella’s cut out cookies from feast is the one I use for cookies that need to hold their shape. You could add mixed spice or something.
