An obnoxious Christmas tree

Hi everyone,

Thinking of picking up a Christmas tree for my classroom and would love the gaudiest thing going. After all, if you can't have something tacky in a primary classroom then where can you have it? Grin

I need something that can be shipped to Ireland (and a fake tree so I can offend eyeballs again next year). Don't mind too much about budget - the school pay it - but at the same time I don't want to spend huge amounts. Please help me in my Tacky Tree Quest!

Ridiculous accessories are a bonus...

The rainbow tree from Wilkos is the tree for you GrinGrin

SionnachRua · 26/11/2020 21:49

I've never heard of that one before! Off to look it up.

I considered this but the flashing lights are a step too far (look at the videos in the reviews, they're...eh...intense Grin ).

Although that particular beauty is out of stock - but I did see a few floating around Amazon if anyone falls in love.

Your school pays for tacky Christmas trees? Fuck me, I can't even get a set of dictionaries.

sohypnotic · 26/11/2020 21:55

Argos also do a rainbow tree, and have a pink tree and a yellow (weird!) tree

TheChosenTwo · 26/11/2020 22:01

@SaltyAF me neither!
Our school splashed out on trees for each class about 10 years ago. They’re the saddest looking trees known to man. Most of us have replaced the ones that we inherited with our classrooms as they are so dire, dog eared branches and some missing... it is up to us to provide decorations too! We usually get the kids to make things to hang on them and I think most of us have donated cast offs for our own tree. One year we asked each child to bring in a bauble or decoration as a donation on Christmas jumper day though which was an absolutely brilliant idea I thought.

SionnachRua · 26/11/2020 22:02

@SaltyAF aye yeah, classroom budget every year and I have little that needs buying in my room! I wouldn't go getting the priciest thing around of course but we'll get the use out of a tree. Have a very tattered looking one in the storeroom - god knows when it was bought, I inherited it - but I think an upgrade is due.

Those rainbow and pink argos trees is great @sohypnotic , definitely the kind of thing I need! Not sure about the yellow though... definitely a brave choice.

I'm reluctant to get anything that requires plugging in for lights so crazy colours are a good avenue to go down.

Can you not take a can of spray paint and a load of tinsel and flashing lights to the current one?

SionnachRua · 26/11/2020 22:15

Ah it's not the colour thing with the current one (I just think the replacement may as well have some colour to it), it's just showing its age. Losing branches, bits looking threadbare etc. I would say it wasn't a great tree to begin with.

Also would avoid lights if I can as that means it has to go in particular parts of the room! The current one has lights but it means the tree is a bit in the way - not a huge deal but I'd love to leave it in a corner.

Having said that, if I really fell in love with something with lights I'd just suck up the awkward placement Grin

We use battery operated fairy lights (which we also had to bloody purchase!) - means it can go anywhere and be moved it it’s proving too tempting!

SionnachRua · 26/11/2020 22:28

Ah true, could use the battery ones. I don't think I'll go lights AND colour though. At least not for the first year - maybe next year 😂
