I am thinking of getting my dd who is 10 a kindle for Xmas, i don't know if its worth getting a kids one or just getting the adult. The kids comes with a years free access to Amazon kids plus she's quite an avid reader and has just finished the latest cressida cowell does any know if the titles on kids plus are any good?

Do you mean the tablet or e-reader?

The kids one is exactly the same as the adult one, the kids version just comes with the cover and the subscription thing which we've never used (the books aren't great so not worth paying for IMHO) It was slightly better value to buy the kids one for me, but exactly the same product as my own kindle. Great present, my kids love theirs.

FWIW the Cressida Cowell books don't come out well on kindles because you can't zoom the text size in and out due to all the illustrations.

We have a normal paperwhite for the children- we had to get the best resolution as one of mine is visually impaired, but that may not be a consideration! There's a children's account that it switches to (I have set up two but one of mine isn't a reader, so the VI child uses it 95% of the time) so they can't browse unsuitable sites, buy more books without consent etc.
We buy a lot of books every year, and the Kindle means we can have new books instantly, DS isn't lugging huge numbers of books around (he's pretty waify), and he can read in any light.
We have a gaming console for games, and didn't want a fire or anything like that.

DD has the normal paperwhite and it is linked to my account but with parental locks so she can't download anything.

It is great for holidays and on a train/waiting somewhere. It fits in her handbag easily.

But, kindle books with illustrations are no-good. I also found that new releases are very expensive on kindle and the kindle unlimited is not so good for children as well. So we do have still a good mix of paperbacks and kindle books around.

Thanks everyone, I'll go with the kids version, i have really missed the book people coming into the office this year, i used to buy so many Christmas presents from them.

Neither of my kids have the kids ones. There are tons of free games and kids YouTube etc, I'm not sure what else you would be paying for? At ten the case is handy but not essential.

You'd be better off saving the money and using it for Audible to get her audipbooks onto it.
