Stocking fillers for my mum?

Please help! I'm stuck for ideas! I do a stocking for my mum (now 66) every year, and it's always so unoriginal! Every year it contains:

Scented candles
Fancy Christmassy tissues
A Cadbury Fudge bar and a Freddo
A Christmas scratchcard
A traditional German Christmas tree dec
A foreign film on DVD
A notebook
A nice teatowel
And usually gloves, but she has enough pairs now!

I can't think of anything new! I would love to add one or 2 surprises. She is basically impossible to buy for though!

She doesn't wear makeup or have any interest in perfume or nail varnish etc
My dad buys her fancy soap and shower gel
She doesn't wear socks
She isn't into eating or edible treats at all
My dad buys her books
She never listens to music
She's serious minded, wouldn't like a toy or game
She doesn't need a diary or address book

Her only interests beside foreign films and literature is travel (when there aren't pandemics all over the place) and her Border Collie, and taking her on walks. She buys stuff for the dog herself so wouldn't be thrilled with dog treats or toys.

Previously she loved the mini torch I bought her for dog walking on winter evenings, and uses it all the time.

She's made it clear she wants no hand gel dispensers or fancy face masks!

Any ideas? She is totally impossible!

Any magazines she reads? Private eye?

On another note how does she not wear socks? Esp if she walks a dogs. Presumably she wears boots for this in winter?

Also. Light up dog collar for walks in the dark.

Everyone has got nice smelling antibacterial hand gel in theirs this year, body shop do one. And matching hand cream.

If it's all about the dog walking, try searching 'gift in a tin - travel dog' (it's on amazon for 11 quid) I keep mine in the car and it's been really handy - especially the emergency lead one time! It's v cute and will fit in a stocking. If she liked the torch, i have seen online woolly hats with a torch built in - so it's a hands free torch and warmth combo, thinking of getting one myself. Lastly, you can get packs of rolls of poo bags with festive designs on - from pound shops - but if she's a very serious person she might not appreciate them!

And, if she has a collie then there's a whole world of gifting opportunities right there - folding shopping bag with collie pattern on, mug with collie on, pewter collie design brooch........you see where I'm going here. Smile

I wondered about:

  • A travel journal
  • If she drinks: an Amaretto or Whisky miniature or small bottle of prosecco or champagne
  • A small language book (e.g. Italian/German/Swedish in 3 months) if she's interested in learning some phrases for future travels
  • A silk scarf or some earrings
  • A Molton Brown shower gel bauble (even if your Dad buys her some, she might like it).

You can get some lovely square scarves printed with maps. Maybe one of somewhere she would like to visit.
Welly boot liners or socks
Nice luggage tag

ShedFace · 27/11/2020 20:24

One of the new Chillys coffee cups
Luxurious sleep masks / pillow spray
Cashmere wrist warmers / snood

QueenoftheIceAge · 27/11/2020 20:48

Coffee or tea mug
Notecards, could even get personal ones printed
Calendar
Teatowel
Wireless earbuds or headband for music or audiobooks whilst dog walking
If she’s a practical type could you fill out the stocking with wd40 or baby bio plant food or garden twine or something?
