Can we have a general Christmas chat thread?

I'm sorry if there is already such a thread. I'm been (obsessively) checking the forum for the last couple of weeks as I love Christmas but I only have one friend (and DH) who can tolerate the chatter - friend is probably even bigger Mrs Claus than me!

Feeling a bit rubbish today and this forum has been pepping me up recently.

Again, sorry if there is already a thread which I've somehow overlooked!

Thank you for the card love Smile

I've mentioned on another thread that I'll be doing a Christmas Quiz on here starting 1st December. One question a day, some easy some bonkers!

Alas, no prizes Sad and i imagine posters from Australia or different time zones may be answering before the rest of us have had our Coco Pops!

So, keep your eyes open for the El Quinto Coño Christmas Quiz starting next Tuesday!

InTheCludgie · 26/11/2020 12:45

Can't wait, love a quiz!!

Mortgageandmoney · 26/11/2020 21:44

Ooh this looks fun even if I am thick, nice to be here this threads great fun.

Mortgageandmoney · 29/11/2020 17:06

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd check in and see how you were all doing? Has anyone put their decs up this weekend? We are doing it on Tuesday and I'm so excited! Will also be good to regain some of the space in my tiny house as we currently have wrapped presents and decorations in the dining room! Somehow if it's under the tree it's fine! Grin

TrickyD · 29/11/2020 17:32

The tree is up in the sitting room, but only with lights, no decorations, but looking very pretty. Dining room is full of boxes of decorations brought up from the cellar and one spare bedroom is the packing and wrapping station, presents are there, no DGCs allowed in.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/11/2020 17:49

Tree is up and decorated. Well three trees are. I'm trying to work out whether the fourth fits anywhere...

The main tree has a train under it this year. DH has wanted to do it for years, but we waited until the children were a bit calmer (it's part of his Hornby set up, youngest now 7)

CarolinaWeeper · 29/11/2020 21:17

We put our tree up today. I normally like to wait until December but with lockdown it gave us something to do and has cheered us all up no end. We also put up some outside lights for the first time ever, I don't know why we haven't bothered before!

AliceMck · 29/11/2020 22:20

My problem is I shop through out the year and I hide things but can never remember where, I also forget ive bought stuff until I suddenly come across it 🤦‍♀️ DH took the DCs out yesterday so I could start wrapping and get myself organised, I love it, I get all giddy and excited thinking about their faces Christmas morning. I started putting a list together of who has got what and well ermmm I may have gone a bit ott, I had 6 extra gifts I’d forgotten I bought and 2 I know (or pretty sure I bought) that I can’t find hahaha Every year I find the missing gifts a few days after Xmas. As we can’t do Father Christmas visits or pantomimes this year I’ve bought a few novelty extras I’ve been wanting to get for a while and will be going ott with the elfs, I can’t wait. My DCs are all little, and my youngest first year fully understanding what’s happening, they are all so excited. The fact we have 9 Christmas trees is making it so much fun for them as they have decorated all but 2, they are mine hehehe

AliceMck · 29/11/2020 22:22

O I’ve also changed my main colours for the first time in over 15 years, I’ve gone for the rose gold, gold & pinks that are popular this year, they look so nice.

APurpleSquirrel · 29/11/2020 22:27

Wrapped DCs book advent last night, & today we've put up the tree & decorations.
Still got a few presents go buy, but need the non-essential shops to open first.

Chottie · 30/11/2020 06:27

The two people who work in our local railway station decorate the booking office for Christmas. It looks wonderful and there is also a collection / drop off point to leave Christmas presents for children who would miss out otherwise. :)

A local mum has decorated the post box nearest to the primary school with tinsel and a Christmas hat and notice saying 'Letters for the North Pole' on the top.

And, one road locally is doing Advent calendar windows, every day from 1st Dec, someone will light up their Advent calendar window, right up to 24th Dec.

Finally, we have a local Twinkle Trail walk with a map showing the location of houses with their front gardens decorated for Christmas.

It really feels Christmassy around here :)

InTheCludgie · 30/11/2020 11:56

Chottie that all sound lovely! Lots of festive cheer in the run up to the day.
We put our tree up yesterday and I will start wrapping the kids presents this week with a Christmas film on in the background.

Iamblossom · 30/11/2020 16:43

Ooh yay, glad I have found this thread.

Sooooooooo, we are putting our tree and dex up next weekend, even in shitty old 2020 I couldn't quite bring myself to do it outside of the month of December, plus DH had his 50th on the 27th Nov and our Anniversary is 25th, so need to give him a few days to have his cards up and get his cake eaten. I will be getting them all down from the loft and using them all this year though, whereas on previous years I have only used a subsection. DS2 has fairy lights up in his room already.

I couldn't find the boys' advent calendars I use every year for ages today, finally found them in the loft on the second look up there, so have filled the drawers with sweets and the jokes and forfeits that I keep from the previous years' crackers. They are far too old for them at 14 and 16 but I don't care and make them do it. Grin

I think I am basically there with presents, and have started wrapping, I keep them all at my Dad's house (we are in a bubble with him) so I can hang out with him and wrap at the same time.

Have made the cake, but keep forgetting to feed it, will do that again tonight. [tot for cake tot for me, repeat Grin]

Foodwise, I'll make xmas cookies and decorate them with the boys, but other than that and a ridiculous amount of Quality Street throughout the month of December, it's only us 4 on Christmas Day. I will have smoked salmon in for breakfast with scrambled eggs, and we will have beef wrapped in prosciutto with about 7 different veg, and I have bought a Christmas pudding from Lidl, and I will make a trifle. I don't think we need anything else. Hmm

Can we have a general Christmas chat thread?
Holothane · 30/11/2020 21:52

Advent calendars out tomorrow and giant Santa plush.

BaconAndAvocado · 01/12/2020 09:37

Chottie I want to live where you live! It sounds magical.

Iamblossom you sound like my Christmas Twin! I think pretty much everything you described is what goes on here!

My two age 12 and 14 are on their last day of isolation so are still in bed. I've put out their advent calendars........
Your calendars are beautiful 😍

Lighthousekeeper27 · 01/12/2020 09:44

Ooh may I join please?
DH is off today so will put up trees, lights etc, and then I can potter around this evening putting up tree ornaments and other pretty little bits. Advent calendars and our elf are good to go for this evening, our DC are 5 and 3 so we've decided that calendars will be opened in the afternoon/evening as we will never them out on time in the morning otherwise! I'm a little bit sad that we can't do some things like a Santa visit this year as they are the perfect age for it but looking forward to all the fun all we can have.

MrsDThomas · 01/12/2020 10:05

Oh i love Christmas chitchat!

Today i have a day off and I'm going into town for a few bits and bobs. Plus to buy done wine etc. As pubs in wales aren’t allowed to sell alcohol after 6pm on Friday until possibly the 17th -wtf for i don’t know- so its anticipated that Lots will be bought in shops so im joining in. Plus there are some good offers there. Bought a nice bottle of Cockburns port yesterday for £10 instead of £15 in Tesco -part of the Clubcard deal!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/12/2020 10:32

I'm very happy... I correctly solved the first mystery in my Sherlock Holmes advent calendar. The children were ready 15minutes early so we're allowed their Lego calenders before school. DH hasn't tried his whisky calender yet. Grin

I'm getting urges to find an elf from somewhere. Despite DDs not being interested. I think this is my last Santa year... But I said that last year... (They are 9&7).

HoldingForGeneralHugs · 01/12/2020 10:45

Hello may i join?

I love christmas and this is the first year my ds (3) understands christmas and santa so i want to make it as lovely as i can.
We have just done out advent calendars, ds has a magnetic melissa and doug wooden one his aunt sent us its gorgeous! And ds and i have a fill your own one (dh isnt interested in adevnt calendars) ds initially couldnt understand why he couldnt have all the chocolates and put all the magnets 😂 he seems to be ok now.

We are going to make christmas decorations later and find a christmas film to watch. Im trying to so something christmasy with him on my days off 🎄

Holothane · 01/12/2020 13:48

My advent calendar is up my giant Santa plush is by my chair.

TrickyD · 01/12/2020 15:05

I spent weeks asking DS1 what DIL would like for Christmas, with no helpful suggestions. Similarly asked DIL about DS1. She was more sensible and said he could do with a jumper as she was fed up with him in his hoodies. It arrived this morning . I eventually ordered some mushroom growing kits as recommended here for DIL as she is a vegan.

Then half an hour ago:
‘I’ve thought of something DP would love but maybe it’s too expensive, we could share it though”.

It is Duopot Duocrisp. Out of stock virtually everywhere but secured one from Lakeland with £10 off with voucher. Still £139.99 though.

The only present I have not now bought is something for big DGS, who is 27. I am wondering how much he would appreciate a jumper and a mushroom growing kit.

APurpleSquirrel · 01/12/2020 16:21

Advent calendar fail! Bought a Dairy Milk one for DH, I have refillable ones for DC & thought I'd bought a Lindt one for me. Opened it this morning only to find it's a bloody selection box!! Envy

PinkJam · 01/12/2020 20:02

@HoldingForGeneralHugs Aww, my DD understood it for the first time last year at aged 3 and it made it so magical.

I was eyeing up the Melissa and Doug advent calendar for my littlest but decided I had already spent too much this year! So hopefully will get it next year Smile

PinkJam · 01/12/2020 20:03

@APurpleSquirrel On the plus side, at least there’s more chocolate in a selection box!!
