Anyone have any good or bad experiences of buying from music magpie and the like?

The problems with 2nd hand apple tend to be home button and battery as they take a lot of hammer

chunkyrun · 20/11/2020 11:51

I've used eBay and the buyers protection Always sides with the buyer. Had an issue with the audio on an apple phone. Seller didn't want to refund. eBay over ruled and sent a full refund once I provided proof of return

Thanks. I recently used ioutlet for an ipad, and have been happy. But they don't do the product I want.
I'll look into ebay, thanks.

I've bought 2 iPhones from Music Magpie. One was faulty and it was immediately replaced without a quibble. The other was bought more than a year ago and has worked without any problems. I think they're a really good way of buying Apple products if you don't want the price hit of new. I bought a 7 for DD for a very reasonable price.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 20/11/2020 11:58

That's good to hear, thanks @Beamur

Do you think descriptions of condition i.e. Good used condition or excellent are accurate??

I bought a 'pristine' secondhand iPhone from Music Magpie for my daughter 3 years ago and it's still going strong (much to her dismay). It was spotless and looked like brand new in the box. The prices aren't as good as they used to be - recently they were selling pristine for the same price you could buy new from Apple!

Sounds like they're probably quite reliable then. I don't mind very good or good condition if it actually is as described!

The description was accurate in my case. I've been happy with the purchase and would use them again.
I've used MM to sell CD's and an old PlayStation too. They seem pretty reliable in my experience.

Thanks everyone I feel much more at ease about buying second hand now ☺

I bought an iPhone 6S from Music Magpie in January. I think the condition was described as good. It looked like new to me and it's still going strong now.

I had been thinking about upgrading but I was quite surprised at how expensive the iPhone 7 and upwards were when I looked.

I also bought a refurbished iPad Air from the Apple website years ago and it's still working fine.

BlueChampagne · 20/11/2020 14:03

DS1 and I have had ebay phones and he has an ipad from CEX. All have been fine.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/11/2020 14:03

I bought a phon for DS2 from here years ago. It was like new when it came. I’ve, also, used the iOutlet, it’s a shame they don’t have what you want

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 20/11/2020 14:07

Great tips everyone! I'd forgotten about CEX there's one in the town I live in. Closed at the moment though.

We've used Music Magpie and Quick Mobile Fix a couple of times to buy refurbished iPhones (I think that's 5 phones in all and we'll probably replace our 6C with one of them shortly).

We had an issue with DD's 5C (I suspect it hadn't been put back together properly), but they were very quick to replace it for us.

I am sure one of the online firms was a subject of complaints on R4 this week, so check recent reviews.

Madcats · 20/11/2020 14:15

Oops I meant "6S", but you get the idea.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/11/2020 14:30

I've bought a couple of iPhones on eBay and very happy with them. But I have also Ben scammed a couple of times as well. Fortunately I won.

Pansypath · 20/11/2020 18:26

I got two iPhones from music magpie. One is great. Other has a terrible battery and will only really work when plugged in

ExpensivelyDecorated · 20/11/2020 18:28

We've had a couple of reconditioned Iphones from Giffgaff which have been great.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 20/11/2020 20:53

I've got what I was looking for from music magpie now. Looking forward to it arriving!! Hope DD will love it. Thank you everyone.
