Graphics tablet??

10 year old loves to draw - I've seen someone suggest graphics tablets. What exactly are they and can someone recommend one? Thanks

I asked the other day...hopefully I have linked the thread.

We looked at lots of online reviews too and went with the Wacom one medium size.
