The person who guesses presents..

My dad without fail will attempt to guess his presents before opening them. It drives me nuts. I've tried making them odd shapes, putting in boxes but he'll always guess. What can I do to really disguise his presents this year?

Hide them and wrap the clue to where they are hidden.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 18/11/2020 16:33

An empty box? That should stump him! 🤣

I hid ds's switch in a big crisp box surrounded by bags of a crisps. He was buzzing he thought he had 12 bags of Nik Naks!!

D & I once wrapped up a backgammon set for DH to look like a barbecue. It took some boxes and we had to use a colander to make the dome bit. Took ages.

I would use a whole roll of duct tape and stick a yoghurt pot or similar on the side to disguise shape & given it will take him about 2 hours to get through it to unwrap on Christmas day might make him more disinclined to look at presents beforehand in future. Grin

It's not beforehand, you'll give him a present (we take it in turns)

"Here you go dad"

"Thank you"

"Oh thank you for my x y z" guessed before he's bloody opened it!

I think I'll bubble wrap everything and wrap about 5 times add weird things like random fork etc and might shut him up!

@Elvesinquarantine I wish someone would hide my present in a box of Nik Naks!
That sounds so much fun.

Save a small plastic tub and put so bring like a few stones or something that will rattle inside the parcel

unmanagable · 18/11/2020 18:45
  • so bring = something

Comedy gifts only, something you’d buy for a toddler perhaps, then a real present shoved into his car to discover when home, or posted to him.

It’s possible that the guessing reminds him of childhood, which is quite sweet. It’s also possible he always has to be right, which isn’t as sweet.

I don’t know the man, so have zero idea.

Happy hunting.

Oh god my DP is like this! It drives me mad but she finds it really fun so I let her get on with it.

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 18/11/2020 18:58

I feel your pain. DH does this but days in advance asking what he's got. I struggle to keep a straight face.

He's just had his birthday and sat last night contemplating what to spend birthday money on. Had another look at a watch he really wants but I said he doesn't have enough for it, not that I've got it for Xmas already Grin

Wrap him up a salad fork strapped to the end of a shower head. That'll fox him :-)

Grin yes and wrap it 9 times he'll be so fed up when he sees what he's actually got!
