Trying to make a list of things I can get in case theres another lockdown before xmas (we are in wales so out of ours now but rumours of another one right before xmas!)
Trying to think of everything that 'makes christmas 'christmas' if we cant get out the couple of weeks before as non essential shops are shut/online deliveries are crazy and taking too long

Tree - we get our from the woods up by us so assuming this will be fine as get it 1st weekend of dec
need to buy some new fairy lights as have 2 smaller sets and they arent the exact same colour so want to get one big set 600 or more lights.
have enough decorations so fine with what we have
need a new xmas table cloth and some xmas napkins
Food - i am assuming this will be fine as usual but will stock up on non-perishables
kids presents - will get these in the next week or so and pop out tomorrow to do stocking bits from Flying Tiger/B&M etc
kids xmas pjs - got DS2 but need to go into M&S and see if they have the other 2 sizes as sold out online
Stockings - DD wants a new one. really annoyed as found perfect one (sloth Paperchase one) but its sold out. nearest paperchase is cribbs which is england and so shut
ordered a couple of board games for xmas for us to play.
Crackers - going to fill my own but havnt found any sets that I like that go with our colours (red/silver/white)

other than that i think apart from food/treats/booze we will have everything we need for a merry christmas.

Any other ideas/anything I've missed or anything that makes christmas for you that I can steal ideas for?

Wrapping paper?

We like a festive jigsaw. Quite niche though!

CeeJay81 · 11/11/2020 14:38

Following this, as I'm in Wales and have the same thoughts. Planning a shopping trip tomorrow to hopefully get everything I need. Have finished the presents but got all the other bits to get. Shall be doing a list tonight, so I'll take a look at this thread later.

Do you need candles or a centrepiece for your Christmas table? Christmas cards? Parcel paper for posting the gifts you can’t give in person?

RedRedRobinBobbin · 11/11/2020 17:05

Had a tesco email saying, amongst other things, that it would be useful if people shop early for Christmas. I normally leave all food shopping till the week before but have been putting a few bits aside each week. Still need baileys and after eights as they are definable essential!

SausageRoll2020 · 11/11/2020 17:11

I think you've covered most things there!

This is probably a boring suggestion but maybe just some spare wrapping paper, sellotape and batteries in case you need any last minute.

@BrieAndChilli - there's a Paperchase in Cardiff.

I'm also in Wales and bought the majority of presents mid-October to try and ease my anxiety over the rumoured lockdown. It's made me feel much calmer but I know when I get everything out I'll realise I still have lots to buy so am burying my head for now.

We order our Christmas dinner from a local hotel to collect on Christmas Eve so I did that last weekend and have been getting the odd bit of 'Christmas' food and drink over the last few weeks. I feel now if I couldn't buy anything else, Christmas would be absolutely fine.

I think my essentials are food for Christmas lunch and gifts for my family.

Where is it rumoured about lockdown in wales again? When would that be?

Twilightstarbright · 12/11/2020 06:59

@BrieAndChilli I can check in my local paperchase if you like? It's open.

@BrieAndChilli

Sorry this is off topic but what are the rumours around a Christmas lockdown please? I have relatives in Wales I was hoping to see at Christmas Sad

CeeJay81 · 12/11/2020 07:22

I think another lockdown will be begining of January after Xmas hols. It won't be over Xmas.

I would agree with this. Not a cat in hell’s chance of a lockdown over Xmas. Too political.

I hope so.

Well only rumour but a friend of a friend who works for welsh government and was right about the firebreak has told us that Leon let to be another one before Christmas and then a teacher at school told the year 9s (who were home schooled during the firebreak) that they won’t Be in school last week of term as we will be in another lockdown that is lifted on Xmas Eve.
Now might not be true and just unfounded speculation but my thinking is prepare for the worst and make sure I have everything (bar food as supermarkets will still open) so if it does happen I have everything I want and if it doesn’t happen then I’m just ahead of myself and can spend last two weeks of Dec not having to go shopping in the crowds!

KatherineJaneway · 13/11/2020 07:55

Thanks @BrieAndChilli I know we just have to wait and see but it is frustrating not being able to plan fof such a key holiday for us.

pinkksugarmouse · 14/11/2020 22:10

It's different for everyone of course but I would suggest checking that you have pain relief for adults and children, bonjella, olbas oil (be careful around pets), plasters, diarreah relief, something for indigestion, antiseptic (like TCP) and some thrush and Cystitis medication.
Make sure you have enough prescribed medicines to last too.

Perhaps I sound like a pessimistic but I like to have certain things available and these things have a very long shelf life.
