Present ideas for 9 year old girl

She likes craft kits, sewing kits etc but has quite a few unused already. We have all the main board games. Loves reading but we have loads of books, loves Harry Potter, Roald Dahl etc. Doesn't have any gadgets yet (except a Vtech camera). At a loss what to buy her! She likes playing make believe games but doesnt really need 'stuff' to do that. Has an illuminated globe, CD player, lots of clothes, dolls, karaoke machine.

Any ideas welcome!

String lights for bedroom or cushions. We decorated DD's bedroom during Lockdown and she got lots of bits like photo frames etc for her birthday. Bean bag?

Fisharefriendstoo · 10/11/2020 20:23

I’m probably not going to be very much help as I’m trying to find ideas for 9 year old. However I struggle more because she has all the tech you can think of and doesn’t imaginative play or read alone so has loads of already unopened things so I’m struggling at the idea of buying things I know might sit there vs wanting to give her a lovely Christmas after this year.
However, some of the things on my list are -

Lego
Jigsaws
Perfume
Electric toothbrush
A new bike

Ideas if you don’t want tech -
Rollerblades
Big beanbag for watching tv/ reading
Kinetic sand
Jewellery box

Sorry if that’s unhelpful x

goteam · 10/11/2020 20:35

What tech would you recommend for a 9 yo @Fisharefriendstoo ? She has never asked for anything but it would be good to have an idea.

Bike is a good idea. She does beed a new one actually.

@Ihatesandwiches she has string lights and lots of cushions! We also just got rid of a bean bag chair due to lack of space! DD is extremely messy unfortunately so just lets the cushions etc gather on the floor rather than taking 30 seconds to put them on her bed....

My 9 year old has asked for a my generation doll after seeing it in a toy catalogue. She will also get polymer clay, a special book more of a keepsake/sentimental thing. I can't remember anything else from the top of my head!

goteam · 10/11/2020 20:49

@Aroundtheworldin80moves the cake decorating kit is a great idea. She has asked for one before actually.

Echo dot- they will be cheaper on Black Friday I imagine-paid between £11-18 for ours

New jk Rowling book released today
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1510202250/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Fisharefriendstoo · 10/11/2020 20:54

It’s not that I’d recommend tech to be honest. It is my DSD so between both houses she’s got an awful lot so probably got to the point where that was all that was left!
Nintendo DS
Nintendo switch
iPad & iPod - plays games with her friends such as ROBLOX / Minecraft.
She does have a phone but I wouldn’t rush it was more for communication.
Xbox - literally gets used as a very expensive DVD player.

If your DD isn’t interested then I wouldn’t rush to buy.

You mentioned Harry Potter and the Lego sets look really good and some of them connect to other sets?

MisiSam · 10/11/2020 21:20

Does she like baking? You could get a cake recipe book and a pretty mixing bowl/cupcake cases, apron ect

goteam · 10/11/2020 21:24

Thanks @MisiSam she got the cookery books and apron etc for her summer birthday. Just the icing set missing.

New JKR book is a great idea. Forgot that was out this month.

Will look.into Echo Dot.

Thanks all

If you are looking for a cheaper tablet option a kindle fire might be an idea. There is a kids subscription that gives you access to loafs of age appropriate apps. There are loads of Toca Boca and My Town apps that lend themselves to imaginative play.

GameSetMatch · 11/11/2020 09:29

Amazon kindle fire?

FearlessSwiftie · 11/11/2020 09:53

If she loves HarryPotter, then maybe get her something related to it? Like a characters' figures or a necklace with golden snitch or a sign of faculty she likes the most? I had a Hogwarts blanket and a Ravenclaw scarf when I was 15 and I was sooooo happy. Amazon and Etsy have a lot of that stuff
www.amazon.com/harry-potter-blanket/s?k=harry+potter+blanket&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
www.etsy.com/market/harry_potter_blanket
Harry Potter themed calendar will also be a good option, she can use the sheets from it as posters later. Just find pictures or arts she will like and combine them into a calendar in calendar makers like photo-calendar-software.com/ or www.canva.com/create/calendars/
There are also Fantastic Beasts books, one is a first movie screenplay and another one is a beasts "guide" by JK Rowling, and books like Quidditch Through the Ages and Tales of Bard the Beedle. These aren't really exciting but a fan would love them.

goteam · 11/11/2020 10:13

@FearlessSwiftie great suggestions, thanks!

@Ningnang2000 and @GameSetMatch thank you I will look into the kindle fire
