Super Mario

My little boy is 4 and watched Mario and Luigi on the iPad and on Netflix over and over, he loves it. I want to get him some bits for Christmas but am struggling to find much. I don’t want to get him a switch as I am hoping to hold off the games consoles for at least a few years yet.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I’m even struggling for character clothing. I saw some nice bits in H&M but I have never bought for him there and the sizes were either 2-4 or 4-6 which I find bizarre.
Anyone seen any cool bits about?

What about the Mario lego?

Sunfl0wer20 · 10/11/2020 08:18

Just to add, I know I am being really fussy Confused but I don’t really want the Lego either, we have got lots and have already bought lots of playmobil stuff for Christmas.

Oh, ignore that then!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/11/2020 08:19

Beware with the Mario lego to need the Starter set before the smaller expansion sets.

InDubiousBattle · 10/11/2020 08:19

Tesco had some Mario stationary last time I went in, just some stickers, pencil case, pencils etc? They also had the little plush teddies of the characters.

CuteOrangeElephant · 10/11/2020 08:21

The Nintendo store has some cute bits like this mug: store.nintendo.co.uk/nintendo-merch-accessories/cat-mario-enamel-mug-super-mario-bros.-35th-anniversary/12682748.html

Primark always had mario clothing. Obviously once lockdown has opened up again.

BertieBotts · 10/11/2020 08:26

H&M sizing is so you don't have to keep buying clothes every year and they last longer. The age 2-4 stuff encompasses 2-3 and 3-4, and age 4-6 encompasses size 4-5 and 5-6. They don't have it for things like trousers or long sleeved t-shirts but stuff that can get away with it like t-shirts and pyjamas. The PJs are slim fitting anyway so you can safely buy a size up. DS age 2 (wearing a current mix of 18-24 and 2-3) in the age 2-4 ones.

I'd buy 4-6 for a 4yo.

You can get plush/soft toys of all the characters. Goomba, the Boo, and Yoshi are really cute.

My children are a bit older, but use them in made up games all the time.

newbie987 · 10/11/2020 08:35

Character have some mario clothing - mostly pjs, also IWOOT for Xmas jumpers / tops.
I have DSs 4&5 who are mario and transformers mad. We are thinking of buying them mario jumpers for December.

That makes a lot of sense actually and is really helpful, thank you. Your little one is so cute !

My kids love the plushies you can get off eBay

Rosieposie94 · 10/11/2020 12:42

There's a couple of mario games out at the moment, we've bought the super mario shaky tower one for ds

PinkJam · 10/11/2020 13:54

Hot Wheels have individual Super Mario cars as well

Have seen Mario, Luigi, Toad and Bowser

Bowser’s car looks really good

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 10/11/2020 14:04

Smyths have a large talking figure, called it's-a-me Mario. We have just bought it for Mario obsessed ds who is 3 in a couple of weeks. Bowsers castle looks cool as well. You can get costumes for about £6-£7 on AliExpress which are really good for the price, but coming from China so take a couple of weeks to come. Smyths actually have quite a few Mario toys, worth a look

princessbear80 · 10/11/2020 14:16

Hi OP I’m in the same situation! I’ve got my 4 y/o some H&M Mario pants and a t-shirt in the 4-6 size. I also think he’s too young for a switch. There is a free Mario Kart app on the iPad/iPhone which he can play instead, I’ll load it up for Christmas Day.

MrsWhites · 10/11/2020 14:22

Smyths have mario figures, there is also a bowser castle playset. I think Smyths stock it but Costco definitely have it at the moment.

reginaphalangeeee · 10/11/2020 15:34

IWOOT can be good for Mario stuff. They do plushies, I’ve bought a Toad one for my son. Argos used to do battery operated lights, not sure if they still do. My son has the coin block one, when you turn the light on and off it makes the coin sound. The official Nintendo website usually has stuff too. My son is 15 now and has loved Mario since he was a toddler!

ILoveGroot · 10/11/2020 15:43

The H&M stuff is really good, my DS (7) has got most of the Mario stuff in size 8-10, the quality is good, they also do Mario slippers.

You can get second hand Knex Mario sets and minifigures on ebay which are pretty good, and some playsets are available in Smyths. My DS brought one with his birthday money, he is over moon with it (I thought it was pretty over priced!)

They also do Mario night lights, in the shape of the mystery box.

Etsy do some cool things too, bath bombs I mario colours with a mario toy in the middle, and mario shaped cookie cutters.

BrowncoatWaffles · 10/11/2020 15:52

We got Mario PJs, duvet cover and dressing up outfit for DS's fourth birthday. He was giddy about all of them.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 10/11/2020 15:57

I have a Mario mad 8YO so in addition to lego and a switch game we've bought;
Mario and Yoshi plushies
Mario backpack
Mario pen, keyring and mug set from Smyths
Mario Uno from The Entertainer
Mario Lamp from Amazon
Mario Thwomp cushion from Ebay
Also looking at the Mario jenga game

Zavvi.com is also great for kids tshirts and merch. Loads of mario and luigi on there and gaming figures. There's usually deals going on regularly. I recently bought a load of kids tees when they had a 2 for £10 offer
