Is this lame? Books as gift

My DM is impossible to buy for. Totally impossible. Not into beauty, clothes or make up. Everything she wants/needs she buys herself (and the top quality version - way above what I could afford). Normally, I play it safe and go for theatre tickets, but that's out this year.

So I've come up with the idea of buying her some fiction books that I've loved reading. I was thinking maybe 12, so like a year long calendar of books.

Do you think this sounds ok, or does 12 books just sound a bit dull? She does love reading, mainstream fiction/thrillers etc rather than anything high brow.

Does anyone creative have a bright idea of how I could wrap/present these so they looked a bit more special than just a basket of books? Was thinking of writing a little bit for each one about why I liked/chose it.

Was just about to suggest a man called Ove. It’s a fantastic book that I’ve gifted before and it’s always been really appreciated

Sounds amazing. I had a willoughby book club subscription, it was amazing. You tell them favourite genres/ authors/ books and they send a new one each month (wrapped nicely). Their choices were spot on, and any I’d read before (happened once in 3 years) they told me to pass on to someone else and sent an alternative.

Lovely idea! I second the Willoughby Book Club suggestion and currently love Reposed if you or anyone is looking for book subscription options.

I can highly recommend Bert's Books for an indie book shop online and he wraps them in ribbon too!
He may even be able to recommend books similar to what your mum likes.

And for all the other bookworms Bert's Books is doing a secret santa! You pay £20 or £10 for hardback or paperback and pick a book. The book you pick gets matched by Bert to someone else and you get a book someone else has picked and they come gift wrapped. I'm so excited to do this but nervous about picking the perfect book for someone else!

What a fabulous idea!

I love the idea from the pp of wrapping each one up with a different treat.

You could wrap each book in a different wrapping paper that matches the months of the year so 1st book for january could be snowy wrapping paper, april could be easter, july could be summer paper etc etc. You could then put a tag on each one with a description of the blurb in your own words so its personalised, or maybe saying why you chose that book for her Smile

Sounds like the perfect gift this year.
