Hi, I will have a just turned 3 year old DD at Christmas and an almost 1 year old DS. I am finding this age really difficult for presents as they have things they like (DD likes princesses, Ben and holly and DS likes Thomas the tank and hey in the night garden) but they change interests so fast I’m worried about buying the presents and then them not even liking the characters by Christmas. What did you buy DC at their age?

Busy books are really good, my DD got a couple of them at 3 and a year later still plays with them loads. She also loves the Disney Animator dolls. They’re a really good size for pre schoolers.

For your DS, I would buy a wooden train track if you haven’t already got one as it will gets years of use, and then buy a couple of the Thomas characters to go with it.

I never really bought very much for particular interests when they were that age, because as you say, they change so fast.
3yo:
Duplo
Playdough
Doll and pram
Toy food and shopping basket
Easel
Scooter

1yo:

Very similar age kids here!

1yo is getting:
Wooden train set
Hammer bench
Grimms 3 men in a boat
Moonlite story projector
Some wooden toys from lidl

3yo put on her list:
Ferris wheel
Zoo (both of the above will be playmobil)
Marble run
Crane
Paw patrol toys

She's also getting:
Lego
An absolute mountain of craft stuff

Plus books, clothes and those sorts of things for them both. Did also buy DD kinetic sand and geomag but she's getting way too much as it is so they've gone away for her birthday.

Maybe a play kitchen for DD? Or a leapstart? Magnatiles or tegu blocks are also great.

Has your DS got brio? I love brio as you can buy expansion packs for birthdays. Or a supermarket equivalent it doesnt have to be brio. My DD also loved generic blocks at that stage, maybe a stacking rainbow?

A wobble board is great fun as well and would be good for both of them :)

At that age my son loved a wooden click clack track
My daughter loved the v tech ice cream cart- got played with Daily
I didnt do characters. Generic wooden trains, a kitchen etc.
Did do Peppa pig actually.

Thank you all. I think I may get 1 or 2 presents with characters they like, but then the majority do non branded presents
