...there’s a fantastic National Geographic book - IIRC The Little Kids’ First Big Book of Dinosaurs. I think someone mentioned it on here last year, so thanks for that, whoever it was!

It’s a big hardback, with huge full colour illustrations, plus an adult size figure to show how big they were, and plenty of info, but the pictures are the main thing.

I bought it last year for Gds, who was still only 3 at the time - he adores that book and knows the names of many which the rest of us had never heard of.

I was also irritated when I saw your post title this morning, so I'm glad someone else has already spoken up. Just completely unnecessary stereotyping. Gender is not innate, it is a social construct. Your GD doesn't just have her mother to copy from, she picks it up from media and the world around her.

To get back to the point of the thread those National geographic books are brilliant, they have the big book of dinosaurs, space, sea, people etc they're a brilliant series.

B&M also stock large dinosaur toys made of quite a durable foam type material. Got the t rex last year, stegosaurus this year.

UKGE is a brilliant website for fossils.

Sass and Belle do a fabulous Christmas bauble that is Santa riding a t rex.

Rex London sell great dinosaur stocking fillers.... toothbrush, temporary tattoos, pencil cases etc.

@Inchargeofcupsandice
We got dinosaur pants for ds in tesco. They are dark colours but not shorts/ boxers.

Dino Dana on Amazon Prime is absolutely brilliant for boys and girls but it's nice to have strong female leads as role models. My DS loves it, he's got the Dino Field guide that accompanies the series and I was bit hesitant because of the price but it's worth every penny. He's read it cover to cover over and over again.

My daughter (6) loves dinosaurs. I bought her a dinosaur lunch box and she started crying because she loved it but thought the other kids at school would laugh at her as ‘dinosaurs are for boys’.

That’s why we pick people up on saying this stupid shit. Because a 6 year old girl is crying because she’s been made to feel wrong and embarrassed by others because she likes dinosaurs but has a vagina.

And, surely you can’t be dense enough to not see this when you say ‘it’s only words’

WoooImAGhost · 30/10/2020 20:45

That's awful Sad You should seriously check out Dino Dana for her Left and if you go onto the Facebook page there's lots of videos promoting girls in science where she puts questions from girls to paleontologists.

Thanks @WoooImAGhost I will do!

It’s important not to perpetuate stereotypes. Really, really important.

I realise you did it by accident OP but a classy little ‘whoops, sorry everyone - of course girls can love dinos too!’ would have been a lovely response, rather than defensive teeth-gnashing.

Fwiw, I recently bought some glow in the dark dinosaur socks from John Lewis for my two year old nephew.

I think this one does pants as well as clothes.
