What will your elf be up to?

My DD was given an elf a couple of years ago but I've only ever moved it to different places occasionally as due to circumstances I wasn't around much. However this year I'm home with her (and her DB). I'm not planning on setting up antics every day but maybe once a week I'd like to set up something fun.

So what are your elves up to and what easy things could I do?

I saw a brilliant thing where the elf was under a glass bowl and isolating for 14 days - so couldn't get up to
Mischief!

Our Generation accessories are a good size for elves. If you have any of the big sets you can set scenes with them.

Easy:
Starclimbing the Christmas tree
StarRolling down stairs inside a toilet roll
StarHiding in toilet roll in bathroom
StarTrapped under a glass

Medium:
StarDrawing a snowman in toothpaste on mirror
StarIn scene with dolls- picnic, queueing for OG ice cream can, riding in Barbie car, slumber party using fluffy socks as sleeping bags.
StarFeeding bread to rubber ducks in the bath
StarFishing in bath or sink
StarCuts toilet paper into snowflakes
StarPut googly eyes on photographs and self
StarTrying on OG doll clothes
StarI ❤️ U in candy canes
StarFlour angels in kitchen

Harder
StarPlaying elf twister (printable)
StarSledging down bannisters covered in cotton wool snow
StarAstronaut wrapped in tinfoil and suspended from planets on ceiling
StarPlaying Xs and Os using gift ribbon bows
StarUse ribbon bows to make a climbing wall
StarTurn Christmas tree into toilet paper snowman
StarWrapped up inside a ball of wool

Arrgh. I’m those stars make me look manic. I was just trying to bullet point the list to make it readable. I’m really not that excited about a stupid elf Blush

Breastfeedingworries · 30/10/2020 07:48

Hahaha 😂 admit it, you’re mega excited!!

UndertheCedartree · 30/10/2020 11:26

@thelegohooverer - the stars look nice! And thanks for all the ideas!

Great ideas @thelegohooverer

I've bought an elf footprint template on eBay to do some walking around the house.

mamawithfive · 30/10/2020 14:02

My 8 year old wants us to have an elf, she’s has 3 little sisters under her.
Tempted to get one this year, and just let him get up to something every few nights, and maybe deliver a few treats - gingerbread biscuit ingredients, Xmas colouring etc if they’ve been good!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 30/10/2020 14:03

After the second year our Elf was promoted to supervisor and could only visit at the weekends and when schools were broken up as he has to keep an eye on the new trainee elves Grin. This works well as our elf was always good bringing gifts, craft items or ingredients for things like salt dough or mince pies and when the elf thing really took off and became popular with lots of naughty elves I was able to scale back particularly as I took on a different job with longer hours.

Dd is 11 now and doesn't really believe but something she loved was when I set her Happyland Town up, added the Santa set and covered the lot in talc as it looked like it had been snowing.

UndertheCedartree · 30/10/2020 14:58

@mamawithfive - that's a nice idea - I might get ours to bring some baking things once school has broken up!

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime - love it! I know my DD doesn't really think the elf moves by itself but I think she just enjoys the fun of it. I know they have one at her school and some of her friends have one too.

I'd love to see her face if the elf was actually up to something! I'm thinking of getting her elf to feed her rubber ducks, make a 'snow' angel and climb the Christmas tree! I might also do a set up with her dolls. I'm also tempted to get a mini flamingo rubber ring for the elf to relax in in the basin! Looking forward to joining in all the fun this year!

Ah go for it. Every night Grin With a bit of planning it's easy.

sELFie 🤳🏽 - take a photo of elf next to tree/sleeping child and get it printed

Trap elf in upside down jar with a HELP note

Elf replaces usual tree topper

Messages written on toilet roll "jingle bells, your poo smells"

Faces drawn on bananas

Elf brings Xmas sweets/biscuits

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/10/2020 15:24

I'm enjoying this thread. I like the idea of an elf prison.

Ihatesandwiches · 30/10/2020 15:27

Elf cracker. Put Elf in toilet roll and cover in wrapping paper. Tie ends with string so head and feet are poking out.
Elf baking mini marshmallows over a blown out tealight. We then HAVE to toast mallows the next day.
Elf in cereal box with face poking out the front and cereal scattered about.
Elf found lying down cuddling an empty bottle of booze.
Toilet paper wrapped tree and Elf sat on top.
The above are not negotiable in our house. I have been doing the Elf for 6 years - love it!

Twilightstarbright · 30/10/2020 15:46

I'm so happy other people like doing elf. It's our first time doing it and after such a tough year I'm looking forward to a bit of fun.

Pleasantly surprised we've not been piled in on by the anti elf brigade!

Ihatesandwiches · 30/10/2020 15:55

Another easy one - if you have snacks after the kids have gone to bed, you can just leave Elf with the wrappers, etc and blame the mess on him!

BeaLola · 30/10/2020 17:12

We had an elf - my DS loved him so much. Quite a few of the things mentioned already we did.

Looking back the things that excited/mystified my son the most was the Elf green wee in downstairs loo (green food colouring drops added to loo), Elf found inside fridge door trying to eat through a chocolate desert inside, Elf on top of the Tree & Elf arriving at school assembly …. I wish DS was small again ….

steph2412 · 30/10/2020 17:54

Some fab ideas! I'm doing elf for the first year this year as need to think of some other ideas to occupy the children! Any ideas of the best places to get a letter to explain the elf and elf accessories? Many thanks

Annie1290 · 30/10/2020 19:28

Anyone know the cheapest place to get the elf with the book about him?

UndertheCedartree · 30/10/2020 21:31

@myhobbyisouting - thanks for the ideas
@Ihatesandwiches - sound great - I like the cracker!
@Twilightstarbright - yes, I was a bit worried! I just want lots of threads about lots of Christmas fun and sharing family traditions without the scrooges appearing!

UndertheCedartree · 30/10/2020 21:32

@Ihatesandwiches - love that one! Maybe a good excuse for some snacks once the DC are in bed!

Twilightstarbright · 30/10/2020 21:35

@UndertheCedartree I don't get it, personally I just don't comment on things I don't like. I'm not a tattoo fan but I don't pile onto tattoo threads moaning about them!!

I was going to write DS a letter from the elf, but ours won't be reporting back to Santa about behaviour.

UndertheCedartree · 30/10/2020 21:35

@BeaLola - sound great fun!
@steph2412 - there are lots of bits and pieces on Amazon.

Our favourite each year is the elf trapping stickman toy in the (unlit) Woodburner Grin
It doesn't have to be dramatic, we find the best ones are the random hiding spots for the kids to find as they're going about their usual morning routine - we hide them in shoes, school bags, in cereal boxes, hiding in clear toy boxes, hanging from lighshades, sliding down the banister, playing with train set, brushing their teeth.
Our Elves have velcro hands which makes their arrangement a lot easier!

cookie226 · 30/10/2020 21:57

Ours has velcro hands too and wire threaded through his arms and legs to make him more posable!
Its our 5th year with Larry the elf and I love it 😄

Twilightstarbright · 30/10/2020 22:15

@cookie226 how did you do that??
