Christmas Birthday how to make it special this year?

I hope all you wise ones can give some ideas. It’s my DS 16th birthday on Christmas Day. We had planned to go to New York, but cancelled that plan once COVID happened. Also with current rules expecting that it will just be our family of 4 on that day. Any ideas on what I can buy or do to make it special would be very grateful.

What does he like? Theme a full day around it.

Maybe have a Christmas market at home, go really over the top with mulled wine, silly hot chocolates, bratwurst, huge pretzels. If you're in an area where it's allowed people can visit socially distanced for a hot cider and a wurst

Thank you for your reply. He loves theme parks, gaming on Xbox, athletics. He had major surgery on his leg so unable to return to things he loves but will be able to in a few months. He never asks for anything, doesn’t want new phone or new Xbox. Stumped for present ideas and the day itself.

DD turns 16 on 23rd. No idea what we are going to do so I am watching with interest

Hmm, tricky. Especially since he doesn't want a new xbox!

Hope someone comes along with some ideas but it might just be one of those things this year sadly.

My DD is 18 on the 21st, so similar situation although maybe more flexibility at 18 than 16.
We were planning a US trip also but, as an alternative to that, I have booked 3 swish hotel suites in a place that offers activities during the day (clay shooting, wild water swimming, quad biking etc.). I have then booked the chefs table for the evening. Thankfully she is vaguely into food and it is a place that creates atmosphere with music, lights etc.
It will just be me, DH, my DD and her two siblings. It is pretty costly but then so was Miami.
Hopefully we will have a memorable time and I'm hoping the weather will be kind.
You could set off first thing Boxing Day maybe? Good luck planning something fun.

Thank you all for your replies. Peakypolly, your idea for your DD sounds brilliant. I will try to look into something like that.

Have you got a virtual reality place near you . Maybe you could take him there in the run up to Christmas. Or perhaps get virtual reality headset for him . Or how about hiring a hot tub for a few days and having mocktails etc . Mock manhattans and cosmopolitans . New York theme .
