Christmas Eve food help

I am embarrassed to say I've never mad much of an effort on Christmas Eve. We've often ended up grazing on a buffet at someone else's house but this year it's going to be different as we'll definitely be at home. I usually focus on Christmas Day cooking but thought it would be really nice to have a Christmassy meal the night before as well as there'll only be four of us. What do you all usually do? All suggestions welcome!

Mmm, DD makes breakfast wraps using the orange cheese slices - Warm tortilla wrap, cheese slices, bacon, sausage and hash brown - you need a sleep after eating one!

Can I suggest adding some burger sauce to that? Adds a certain je ne sais quoi.

Ffs, mmmm

At this rate Xmas Eve will be better than the big day!

I feel like I’ve taken a very civilised thread and talked about canned cheese and burger sauce.

When DS was little and we were not so fluid..... we would have Delia's Italian Baked Cod with green salad.

Laterally we have made sure everything was standing stiff, and gone out for a boozy lunch, with snacky bits for later on.

This year, DS is working (country pub/restaurant) so not so sure, but we are together, we are safe and that is all that matters.

Last year I was off my head on chemo for breast cancer, (for the second time in five years, different cancer the first time )

To use our favourite expression in this house, with a bit of forward planning, it will be, what it will be.

@AriettyHomily

I don't know how it started but we always have crispy dick in pancakes from the take away.
This has finished me! I've been giggling all evening having been accused of fraud and this just topped it off. Actual tears!

We usually have cheese/pate and crackers/ sausage rolls etc at my brothers house. This year we'll have cheese and crackers at home and meet on zoom.

I always wanted a Christmas Eve tradition meal, I was thinking on the lines of home made sausage rolls and mince pies or even Chinese takeaway, but I was always so chaotic Christmas Eve day and didn't manage it until I realised by accident I'd created our own tradition via last minute panicked supermarket shopping, and every Christmas Eve for the last few years we've all picked our favourite buffet /picnic food and laid out a big blanket in the living room and had an indoor picnic while watching a new movie. Generally it's baguette, crackers, cheese board, onion bhajis, dips, Pringles, smoked salmon etc. All the leftovers just get used over the next few days so anything goes.
