Craft sets for 7 and 8 year old girls

Hi
I'm looking for some good craft sets for my 7 and 8 year old nieces. I don't want to get anything that's seen as "too babyish". The 8 year old is an old head on young shoulders. The 7 year old is still fully into pink sparkles and unicorns.

What would your 7 and 8 year olds like?

Klutz craft kids are worth a look - lots of interesting sets.

Blibbler · 18/10/2020 07:43

My 8 year old has just had her birthday she really liked her perfume making set and also a kawaii style fimo set with book - how to make cutsy animals

Equimum · 18/10/2020 09:15

She I do some lovely kits for this age groups - they come in nicer packaging and are more ‘artistic’ than those aimed at smaller children, but still simple enough for this age group.

Equimum · 18/10/2020 09:15

She I do should read djeco

Fivemoreminutes1 · 18/10/2020 09:16

My DD has had a lot of Djeco kits. She likes the silk scarf painting, mermaid mosaics, sequin pictures and foil pictures. I’d also recommend Aquarellum painting kits and Mould and Paint kits. Janod Origami decorations is good too.

I'm getting my 9 year old a tie dye kit.

Lovemusic33 · 18/10/2020 14:39

Tie dye kit?there was one on offer on amazon for around £18, could be a joint present, maybe ad some white T-shirt’s?

My dd likes the knitting looms (plastic looms,a bit like loom band looms), I think you can get them in hobby craft in a set which makes hats, socks etc..

Fimo?

Aldi had some great craft kits the other week, knitting, cross stitch, felting etc.., dd liked the felting but stabbed her finger a few times, I have bought her another felting kit from the works for Christmas.

My 7 year old loves her perfume making kit and air-dry play clay.

Another vote for tie dye kit! My DD7 is obsessed, as is my 13 year old niece!

Card making might appeal to them. You could buy a lidded box and fill it with 'stuff' : card blanks; backing paper; stickers; peel offs. Would start at the Works for good quality basics and top up at Hobbycraft / similar.
If that idea doesn't appeal, browse the Hobbycraft website for ideas

I like the Orb Factory sticky mosaic sets and also the plush craft pillows.
My son, ages 8 enjoyed making the pizza pillow.

Mumdiva99 · 19/10/2020 09:34

Tie dye and white t-shirt
Bath bomb kit
Slime kit (not quite craft but still popular)
Air dry clay/foam - The Range have good sets of this for a reasonable amount.
Acrylic pens, rocks and varnish with a little book on rock painting (Google Love Rocks).

I would tend to buy something that includes ideas if what to make/do. E.g. not just paper and pens.

Some brilliant ideas here. Thanks!

There are dozens of craft sets you can find all over the web, and yeah, Orb Factory sticky mosaic sets are pretty awesome option, but you can also consider about getting coloring pages and printables for your kids, like these Unicorn Coloring Pages that I could find recently. They have also dozens of other printables, not just unicorn-related. It's pretty simple craft sets, but some kids do like them.

DD8 was given a Knit Your Own Bobble Hat set, which had giant knitting needles and really chunky wool. She loves it (she may even have a bobble hat by the time winter comes...!) and it's teaching her how to knit.

caringcarer · 31/05/2021 00:03

What about the kits to make friendship bracelets.

Floralnomad · 31/05/2021 00:16

We got our great niece the Djeco bead loom bracelet kit for her recent birthday and it looked very good quality , I find some craft kits look a bit ‘throwaway’ IYSWIM .

My 8 year old loves crafting.

Some of the best presents have been tie dye with a white hoodie to dye, air dry clay, Crystal growing, slime making kit, mosaic kit (wooden shaped blank and mosaic tiles, grout and glue to decorate) and a big bag of all things craft (pens, pencils, paper, card, scissors, glue, tissue paper, sequins, everything you can imagine really) my DD’s got a big bag for life full at Christmas and it’s still going now and they tend to make something once a week at least.

Some Fimo is on offer at Amazon at the minute, I’ve just bought a few random little sets for Christmas for £2ish each.

She also likes diamond paintings as well and I got a set of diamond painting keyrings off Amazon the other week.

There's a lovely rose gold bracelet making set (beads/charms etc) at smyths for £8

They also have a lot of fashion and makeup scrap books/design books if they're into that sort of thing, it's more along the colouring and drawing lines than crafts x

Stompythedinosaur · 20/06/2021 16:04

Polymer clay, tie dye, slime making and loom bands are all popular with my 8yo.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/06/2021 16:07

Latch hooking? We used to have much fun separating all the wool out into the colours as we did making it. And it's a very easy technique, and easy to sort out if you go wrong.

These personalised pyjamas went down a treat when my nieces were a similar age. Don’t need any real supervision and they used to love wearing the PJs they’d designed.
