What is everyone doing to make Christmas special this year?

Just that, really. Sorely in need of some inspiration on how to prevent Christmas 2020 from being a write-off. Last year, we did carol-singing, went to the panto, did Christmas themed soft play with preschooler DC and had lots of kids' Christmas parties. This year, none of these things will be happening for obvious reasons...

I'm sure we'll have a good time, but it would be good to get a few ideas for how to fill the Christmas holiday. What alternative things will you be doing for Christmas this year?

I just stated a thread on this, but my kids are adults, so I don’t think any ideas ai have will be any good for you unfortunately

Watching for ideas. My son will be 14 months at Christmas so any ideas would be great. We have written off seeing my MIL as she lives at the opposite end of the country but hoping to see local family.

So far we're thinking of trying to have an outdoor Christmas party in the local woods with a few friends. Pick a day when the weather is relatively fine, dress everyone in snowsuits and gloves and try to do some outdoor Christmas painting and decorate twigs and pine cones.

Also maybe secret Santa if we quarantine the gifts beforehand.

Some soft plays are still open.

We'll see if there's any 'socially distanced' carols. Also outdoor Christmas fairs.

We'll do Christmas crafts and baking at home.

That's it so far. And a lot of it depends on what we're allowed to do at the time.

We've booked a Christmas light walk at the local national trust, I'm praying that goes ahead as it's ticketed so they can control numbers and is all outside.

I believe a couple of local places are going to be doing breakfast with Santa as you can stay at tables as a family group and Santa can wander round and say hello to everyone.

We always do a Christmas light safari, driving round in the car wearing PJs and with hot chocolate to spot decorated houses.
