When does this usually come out? Is it November? Also, predictions please. My prediction is some sort of web cam or laptop or technology that keeps us in touch even when we’re isolating. Not sure how the stuffed toy can tie into this.. but we’ll see. I buy the soft toy every year and I am actually SO excited!!

@Fridgeandkitchen

No way will John Lewis have someone with a gun!

Usually the JL ad starts around the first night of I’m a Celebrity.

I've def seen a spoiler of the ad with this as the final pic, think they want to be edgy this year

They should do a nice public service for kids type of advert. Have santa watching the news briefing about covid and losing sleep on the run up to Xmas about how he will visit children in their homes to deliver presents when covid requires distancing. He can test loads of methods and they fail. Then on Christmas eve eve, one of his chief elves gives him a xmas gift. A magic santa suit that protects him from covid powered by all of the Christmas spirit the elves have collected watching all of the good deeds people have been doing over the year especially key workers. He can then deliver all of the presents to the children like normal.

On Xmas day you see the children who have worried about whether santa will come, opening up their JL gifts over zoom with extended family.

Christmas spirit can overcome anything, even covid.

Coming to be an absolute humbug and say that I can't stand the John Lewis advert 😂 after the first success they're just trying to cram in as much socially relevent sentimental nonsense in order to sell a range of merch. And then put some breathy piano/acoustic version of a well known not breathy/acoustic song on top. Already had as many 'we're all in this together' adverts as I can stand this year, the Christmas ones are going to be unbearable 😂 scuttles away again

It will feature an elderly lady who lives alone and has to shield, plus a little girl who walks past every day on her government sanctioned exercise. The two strike up an unusual friendship as the girl walks past each day, through pictures and waves and notes etc. The elderly lady shows the little girl a teddy and uses it to wave to the girl. Then something will happen one day to the elderly lady and she will have to go to hospital. The girl will be sad, and give up hope of seeing the lady and her teddy again. Until Christmas day, when there's a miracle, the lady is discharged from hospital and she puts on a mask so she can go outside and give the girl the teddy. All with obligatory breathy music.

@TheCrow I totally agree. I am a Christmas lover, however I cannot stand another advert about covid! Hopefully they don't make all the Christmas ads feature covid as well this year.

I think if the JL Christmas ad has to feature covid then it could be like a brave heart type scene, covid you can take our freedom but you can't take our Christmas!

@WorksTheDinerAllDay Grin I could absolutely see them doing that! They jumped the gun really when they did the old man on the moon one, could have fit in nicely this year.

The JL Christmas range is all about various forms of art and expression (Renaissance, Bloomsbury, Japanese art) so I agree with PP that it’ll have something to do with that.

There was an article about how huge amounts of art and literature come from periods of quarantine or isolation.

I’m going to guess and say it’ll all be about expressing yourself. Tablets with art/design software, a fancy pasta machine for the budding chefs or a Bluetooth typewriter keyboard (completely left field guess, but they did have telescopes as their big item once).

I think the ad’s been on TV around the 14th Nov the last few years. As PP said, they normally go after Remembrance Day.
