Ocado vs Waitrose christmas delivery

I got an email from Ocado saying I could book a Christmas delivery slot, so I had a look and it's a £90 minimum spend with a £9.99 delivery fee (even for smartpass customers), so I looked at Waitrose and booked a free delivery slot for the 23rd with a £40 minimum spend. What are Ocado playing at - are they trying to discourage customers?

I already order from Ocado and have no problem paying for a Christmas slot.

We get a fortnightly delivery from Ocado during the year, so we give them a fair bit of custom. They have had a bumper year, so why charge their loyal customers so much for a delivery at Christmas? I don’t think any of the other supermarkets charge so much for this week. Anyway we were happy with waitrose this year.

@loolyooly Oh no that’s terrible, sorry to hear that. I guess waitrose varies around the country a lot as it’s picked from stores rather than an ocado type warehouse. Hope you are able to source everything you need elsewhere!

I went with Ocado in the end which is arriving tonight and only thing missing is puppy food. I nipped out earlier and picked some up so relieved its all on the way. I'm buying for my mum as well so it's a big £300+ shop so think one missing item really good. I'd heard horror stories about Waitrose and subs which is why I stuck with Ocado. I have found with Waitrose though that they tend to sub with higher value items for same price so hopefully everyone will get what they need.

Happy to report my Christmas Eve Ocado delivery had no missing items.

My only slight niggle is M&S don't seem to have quite as much shelf life on their products as I have come to expect. I'm hoping it's just a teething problem.
