I love the house smelling festive, especially as it’s starting to get colder.

I prefer plum/spiced scents rather than pine or fir etc. And while I’m happy to pay for quality I don’t particularly want to spend big bucks on a candle, so slightly more budget friendly would be great!

@ColouringPencils

Any recommendations for candles that smell of trees/ greenery/outdoors? I feel like I get too much of the cinnamon and spice. Thanks!
Fir tree - white company

The White Company for their Winter candle, but the Fir Tree is also lovely and last year they did Roasted Chestnut, which was a bit praline-y.
My fave is Crabtree and Evelyn Noel which is now discontinued, I think. Luckily stocked up on it when I could.
Bath and Bodyworks in the US do some wonderful festive scents if you can get hold of them, very strong. I'm just waiting for their Fall season to move on, as it's too pumpkin based for my liking.

Love all these suggestions. I am spending the evening looking up candles. I feel like Mumsnet needs an Autumn/Winter thread as I am not really ready to think about Christmas yet, but definitely in need of some lovely cosiness after the year we have had.

If anyone is tempted by the Sainsbury’s version of the white company winter botanical candle I can confirm it smells of absolutely nothing. Pretty though

There are amazing, they make the whole house smell like you have a real tree in every room. I also love Yankee candles, my favourites are Christmas eve and one they had last year the was a blend of Apple and fir. This year I've bought a Yankee candle advent calendar.

White Company Winter for me too - I have over the years tried the oil, room spray, the tea lights and from small to large candles - all fab with the exception of the ones that have the berries inside them - those ones didn't smell as great - i may have been unlucky but I haven't tried those ones since.

Rina66 · 04/10/2020 05:11

Yankee candle in Cinnamon Stick is my very favourite - you can really smell it (not all candles project!) and it’s not a sickly headache inducing scent which I find some are, you just think “oh, it smells lovely in here”.

tanqueray10 · 04/10/2020 05:21

White Company Winter is my favourite scent of all time. Such a gorgeous smell.

Twilightstarbright · 04/10/2020 07:39

@ColouringPencils not cheap but Space NK had 12 Diptyque pine candles in their sale. Even opening the box I could smell them!

TeddyIsaHe · 04/10/2020 12:09

Bought the large White Company winter candle. It is divine! So much for my ‘mustn’t spend masses on candles’ Grin

It’ll probably last until the end of the year easily, even if I burn it most nights, so it works out quite cost effective. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway!
