I'm looking for help with fortnum and mason please. If I were to give you a hamper from fortnum and mason with 5 things in it what would you be hoping for?
I'm not familiar with their products but know the brand.
Anyone have any recommendations please?
Any particular biscuits, crackers, chutney or jams?
Thanks

Those that love the rose & violet creams, have you tried the House of Dorchester ones that Waitrose sell for approximately half the price of F&M (accepting that the name will add cost).

Am wondering if they could be any better than the HoD, which are my favourite chocolates. Perhaps I need to add a small box to my Christmas order to check ... but I fear they couldn't be better.

MsSquiz · 30/09/2020 16:09

We did hampers for family last Christmas, but rather than just get a F&M's hamper, we chose items from F&M, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and other places so we got more variety.
It did make more effort though, to do this and then order a basket to put it all in. They all went down really well

Yum!

What hampers would people suggest for my grandparents? I want to spend a bit more than usual this year, though no more than £80 if I can.

They have had a hard year and my grandad is extremely tight so this will be a real treat for them. Just not sure which one to go for!

Comefromaway · 30/09/2020 17:06

I love their English breakfast teabags. I bought a little tin of 5 last time I was there and am rationing them. And their pistachio shortbread biscuits are to die for.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 30/09/2020 17:46

Everything I’ve had (bar the mulled wine preserve which was nice but didn’t work for me) is amazing. I buy the chocolates, the biscuits, the marmalades. Their own champagne is beautiful and light - everything. Do get the mince pies - they have a short shelf life so pick your delivery day with care but they are not to be missed.

Toffolossus biscuits. Have eaten two today - delicious Grin

I can't even express how much I would love to get a Fortnum and Mason hamper for Christmas.

I would be hoping for :
1.Dundee cake or Christmas pudding.

  1. Marmalade - I like the look of the wild orange marmalade. I have tasted the blood orange and the lime too - both amazing.
  2. Box of crystallised fruits
  3. Box of chocolate truffles and ganache.
  4. Macadamia or pistachio shortbread.
I know you said five things, but had to add
  1. Piccalilli or Chillililli.
BertieDrapper · 30/09/2020 18:16

This thread has brought back memories. I used to work in the hamper ordering dept over Christmas at F&M

Always fancied the champagne and truffle one myself!

TheCrow · 30/09/2020 18:25

Nothing to add but just stopping by to say I'm in love with the word 'chililili' 😂

jellybeanteaparty · 30/09/2020 18:43

Tea - loose leaf if they drink that the one named fortmason is soo good. They do a nice small bottle of port. Figgy mustard.

Actually, @Whitney168, I slightly prefer the ones that Waitrose sells!

They taste exactly the same but the texture of the fondant is different and the chocolate is a little thicker on the F&M ones. They are both excellent though. The F&M packaging is beautiful though so they are a nicer gift. Luckily, I have a very generous friend who always brings them as a gift when he comes to dinner.

F&M sell them in tiny boxes of 2 (1 violet and 1 rose cream), if you want to try a taste test. I don't know if they have them online though. They make excellent stocking fillers!

AutumnleavesturntoGold · 30/09/2020 19:50

Be very careful with rose and violet creams.
I thought I was getting a waitrose bargain but they were slightly different like fondonts not cream, flat shape..

rottiemum88 · 30/09/2020 19:54

Another vote for dark chocolate florentines, they’re amazing ☺️

cornflowerblue30 · 30/09/2020 21:03

Thank you everyone will have to order online as I'm not near a f and m store but it's great to hear other people's recommendations. Might order a few bits for myself Grin

Their wedding breakfast tea is sublime

Sounds like I’ll stick to the HoD ones then LOL (although I’ll try the mini box one day to check!).

Good point! I had erased the Waitrose own brand rose and violet creams from my mind, they are so bad. The M&S ones are vile too.
megletthesecond · 01/10/2020 12:58

5 tubes of chocolate and macadamia biscuits.

Whitney168 · 01/10/2020 13:02

I've just done a F&M order off the back of this thread, damn you cornflowerblue30 LOL.

In the interests of research, I have ordered a small box of the rose and violet creams, and also have a box of House of Dorchester ones here. I will selflessly test and report.

(And no, definite no so Waitrose or M&S's own versions.)

Sorry to divert the thread LOL.

AriettyHomily · 01/10/2020 13:10

Tradition in my family that I get my mum a box of their mini mince pies.

Nothing else is shout out worthy imo. The biscuits come in lovely tins.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2020 13:19

I'm a regular shopper and got a survey a couple of weeks ago about free delivery and asking what price you might pay yearly for that to order as much as you want

I was very enthusiastic Grin

The food hall has HAGGIS SCOTCH EGGS which are the most delicious things ever. Plus veggie scotch eggs which are amazing, cheese, salmon, lovely biscuits, game pie which is such a treat

LaurieFairyCake · 01/10/2020 13:21

Lovely little pot (they do bigger sizes) of anchovy relish to spread on toast/steak

I got a fortnum and mason hamper from Barclays due to an error on their part, as a sorry for a mix up, and it was amazing. The biscuits and jams were lovely, along with a lovely bottle of champagne, and a tin of tea, a tin of coffee, and a posh tea towel. I used everything, and will reuse the tea and coffee tins!

InDreamland · 01/10/2020 16:17

5 jars of the Hickory smoked nuts 😋
Tea
The chocolate biscuits
Peanut butter
Jar of olives
