Dress up box (but not outfits)

I’m thinking of doing my 4yr old a dress up box but would prefer not to just buy a lot of outfits themselves. She has a fireman hat and accessories (extinguisher etc) and a hat and sword. I picked up a sale summer boating type hat she’ll like. Just looking for any other ideas and any links esp to bargains as trying to do this as cheaply as possible as not much xmas budget this year (hence not wanting full outfits are expensive). Thanks.

Sorry that was a “pirate hat”

I would raid charity shops for bags, scarves, shoes, jewellery, hats, blazer etc

Have a look at charity shops for big silly hats and scarves, costume jewelry and handbags.
What about a generic superhero Cape and mask, I bought one from B&M for DD it was only a couple of £
Hard hat, fez (Amazon have cheap) eye patch to go with the pirate hat?

Long gloves
Little shoes
Handbags
Back packs
Alice bands with bows
Accessories like wands, swords, bow and arrows
Wigs
Knights helmet and shield
Tutus
Animal masks
Tabards made from cut out pillow case - good for nurses, caveman, different animals.
Different animal tails to stick into leggings and joggers made from different scraps of animal fur
Tiara

Best things in my dcs dress up box were fake furs. I think from a fabric shop and in retrospect I’d have got bigger pieces, they were m2 pieces.

Net skirts (elastic and a meter of netting)
Chefs hat (make it from an old white thing)
Plastic jewellery from the charity shop and handbags
Glasses without glass in
Clip on plaits made of wool and a hair band
A stethoscope
A fly swat

I had a big rectangle of blue shiny fabric that was used for absolutely everything. Dragon wings, mermaids, hair, the ocean, a blanket.

Wow! What brilliant ideas. Thank you all so much.

Superhero cape and mask
Witch hat and other witchy bits (broom, cauldron)
Costume jewellery
White coat - multi purpose as doctor, vet, mad scientist
Wings - but avoid the ones with wire edges as they break very easily.
Wands
Magnifying glass
Silly glasses (Spy glasses available off amazon have been a hit with many visiting DC)
Wig, or hairband with plait attached
Princess shoes (sparkly heeled awfulness from amazon) was loved

Charity shops!

We did this for DS a couple of years ago. Also got outfits on marketplace. Most I paid for any was £5, most were £3

Tried to stick to generic rather than licensed characters to give more options

Playsilks. Not very cheap but great for turning into lots of different outfits etc.

The ideas I had have been mentioned! But wanted to say what a lovely idea! Smile

It might be worth checking out supermarkets after Halloween as they might have some dress up costumes and accessories reduced then.

Or some lengths of cheap lining fabric. We had a piece of red material that was variously Red Riding Hood’s cape, a pirate cape, red carpet, ball gown
