What does your 11 year old boy want?

wlv12 · 22/09/2020 22:51

I have no idea - neither does he.

He has a PS4 - not interested in a PS5, has a phone, has a laptop and an iPad through school!, has a scooter, bike, outdoor basketball hoop, cricket set. Not into Lego.

He’s always difficult to buy for but this year - I’m stumped! I’ll get some clothes and a new football but otherwise, no idea.

Would love some tips.

Ds will be 12 in December. He has asked for a Go Pro camera thing to film himself on his skateboard. He’s also getting new headphones, a fleece onesie, and a couple of books.

Scotlass · 27/09/2020 21:27

Mine is asking for a nintendo switch and mario odyssey game- no idea why as he has a ps4 but that's him sorted other than stocking bits and some new clothes /pjs.

At this age in our house it's a set budget and stick to it and think carefully about what you really want or need

Arriettyborrower · 27/09/2020 22:10

Mine is 11 just after Christmas. He has mentioned ps5 but not overly pushing this, a bike - likely bmx, new skateboard, would love a gaming chair and will get a new onesie and some clothes.
The go pro to film himself skating would def go down well.
In summary, nothing to add but pinching all these ideas 🤣

CoffeeChocolateWine · 30/09/2020 10:04

My DS will have just turned 12. Things he would love or have been big hits are...
Bike
Electric guitar and amp
Roller blades
Gaming keyboard and mouse
Gaming headset
Pen knife
Tickets to Harry Potter or other theme park
Magazine subscription
Books/audio books
LED lights for his room

WokesFromHome · 01/10/2020 08:24

DS11 is getting half an Apple Watch and the other half he is paying himself which he has saved from money given to him from relatives and pocket money saved. £600 for a whole watch is too much for a Christmas present IMO.

He will also get new PJ's, slipper, socks, loads of chocolate, perhaps a hoodie, bath bombs or nice bubble bath. I used to buy loads of tat for him to open but he actuality said to me he didn't want all that stuff, just one decent thing.

3WildOnes · 01/10/2020 12:07

DS 10 is getting

Football kit
Lego remote control car
Some books
Some clothes/PJs

Stocking will be;
Lots of sweets
Can of fizzy drink
Small book
Bath bomb
Goalie gloves
& a soft toy

oohyoudevilyou · 01/10/2020 12:43

My nephew is 11 and wants Nike Mercurial football boots. At his age they won't fit for long, so £55 ish seems pricey, but that's what he wants from us. My kids are older but experience has taught me that it's best to buy the exact thing they want or give cash towards if it's too expensive, as alternative won't be used or worn.

BakewellGin1 · 02/10/2020 20:05

My DS is just 12... He never asks for a lot during the year so does tend to get what he needs at Christmas...

This year is a Rangers and Man City top, Ea7 and Nike Air Tracksuits, football boots, PlayStation Pyjamas, Dressing Gown...
Need to get coat and trainers then apart from that ps4 voucher, InflateSpace voucher, cinema tickets... And a promise of tickets to a rangers and man City match when spectators are allowed again... Anything will be stuff like socks, Boxers, sweets etc.

He doesn't want a phone or ps upgrade and has a laptop for school work already so no 'big' bulky present but he knows how much things are

BlackberrySky · 02/10/2020 20:12

Mine wants a furry beanbag, Dungeons and Dragons board game and a chemistry set

Atadaddicted · 03/10/2020 17:31

@GalOopNorth

Wow

I have an 11 year old

He is getting a Fitbit kids For Christmas.

And some other bits - books, chocolate

I am amazed what some kids have. He doesn’t have a phone, x box, PlayStation, Nintendo or anything like that. We live very rurally so maybe he is young for his age. We have one friend whose DD has a phone, the rest don’t.

Yes very much around here. 10/11

The boys are all obsessed with cricket and rugby. Absolutely zero interest in phones!

Long May it last...

BiarritzCrackers · 03/10/2020 17:38

Can any of the skateboard people share what they are getting? DS will be 11 by Christmas, and has been going on about receiving one for a couple of months, but I don't know what I should be getting or where to start.

Other than that, probably a Lego technical car of some sort as main present, soft toy (he asks for one!), books, chocolate.

Relatives will get board games, Beano sub, stuff like that.

Theonlyoneiknow · 03/10/2020 22:21

DS is 11 at Christmas and I am stumped. He's not getting a phone until he goes to Academy. He has Aspergers so tends to be obsessive about a particular thing at any one time. This year its climbing but he has what he needs to do that. Arghhhhhh! So far he has some lego and that's it. I am so stuck

BeaLola · 03/10/2020 22:41

Mine is 12 but will be 13 b4 Christmas - no idea what to get him - he would Love a dog but that is seriously not going to happen!

Last year Grandparents bought him AirPods and they were his favourite thing as well as a huge box of Ferro Rocher and a lremote controlled led lightbulb for his room - cost £9 on Amazon .

He does get quite a Lot I think - he is sadly an only child and only Granchild on. Both sides and both GP's are comfortably off .

He stiill lives his Santa sack Smile

Ds is 13 now but thinks he's liked

Echo dot
Trivial pursuit
Illustrated Harry Potter
Young driver experience
Football magazine subscription
Fidget toys
Ps4 games
New phone case / pop socket
Memory for ps4

Dd is 10 and has a phone - I don't know of any kids round here bar one who doesn't and they all talk about them and used them to stay in touch over lockdown etc. The one girl who doesn't have one is definitely left out although I don't think intentionally. I didn't want to get dd a phone until high school but she'd really have been left out. My niece though is 12 and doesn't have one and nor do her friends apart from one or two so I guess it just depends.

Have stolen some good ideas here, namely mini fridge and Simpsons vans!

I have dc 10 and 11 who want a ps5 (we’ll see!)

They’ve asked for the following between them:

Apple Watch
HP and Thanos lego
Heelies
Pokemon manga box set
Scooter
Fortnite bundle (sure there will be other games out before Xmas too!)

Both heavily into sports but already have what they need for those in the main.

One dc wanted a vr headset but we’d have had to buy a gaming pc which worked out ridiculously expensive so have put that on hold. Maybe something for next year.

partywithkiddos · 06/10/2020 13:16

An 11-year-old young boy will be very passionate about playing. Even though he has plenty of toys he looks for the one he doesn't have. So why make him feel sad on Christmas eve. Pick these best Christmas gifts for kids that will make them happy.

@Cantthinkofausename

My son turns 11 a week after xmas. So far I've got him

Iphone 8
New headset for xbox
Xbox light
X-rocker gaming chair
12 months xbox live
£100 xbox gift card (he has the digital edition so needs to buy games online)
Bluetooth speaker

What Gaming chair did you get, if you don't mind me asking. I'm looking for one for my 11 year old too.
AmericanAdventure · 06/10/2020 13:45

Also for those who are feeling bad about not overspending for Christmas presents DON'T. I absolutely believe each to their own, but last year we started a new Christmas tradition. Santa brings one gift for each. We've always done that. It's usually a mid level gift, we don't ask santa for anything too expensive. Then mum and dad do the 4 present rule -

1 thing you want
1 thing you need
1 thing you wear
1 thing you read
... And a stocking with orange, chocolate, a pound coin and snuggly socks.

My 11 year olds most appreciated gift was a subscription to a Computing magazine?

&

and he desperately wants GTA too... we overheard other parents in the playground THREE YEARS ago had bought it for their 8 and 5 year old, we where shocked back then but guess its filtered through the class and now he wants it because the other kids have it but no way is he getting it, its an 18+ and DH use to play it so know exactly how bad it is

he keeps sulking and wishing to be 18 lol

I saw that at DS 11th birthday, all the kids bar one had a phone and the others where making bitchy comments to him and bragging about who had the newest/most expensive phone

Theres definately a competetive attitude pushing the kids to want more adult things

Having a phone doesnt shock me, I'm in my 30s and have had one since the mid-90s although most of my friends didnt get them until the early 00s but everyone I knew had one by age 14 at the latest even back then and I come from a poor and rural area so its not a city thing. What shocks me is the cost, kids arent happy with a basic smart phone they want the £1k brand new apple phone now.
