I had to leave my DH in May due to his drinking and i would like to make Christmas special for our 2.5 year old (and me to be honest)

I am not talking about presents but what things can i start organising to make it feel magical/ special? Should i order us pyjamas, what films or books do you recommend? What little traditions do you have that make Christmas special and memorable?

2.5 years is a perfect age for visit to see Father Christmas, his elves and his reindeer, but I’m not sure how many places will be doing that this year.

I loved making gingerbread men with my Dc. Even from a young age they cut out the shapes and decorated them.

My DC have always written to Father Christmas. At that age, they used to dictate and I scribed. Then then just about managed to trace their name at the end.

We have always had an advent candle. My DC loved watching it carefully to check that it didn’t burn out the next number, and would blow it out at the right time!

A few nights before Christmas, we go for an after-dark walk to look at Christmas lights.
We’ve always had a real Christmas tree and we take the DC to go and choose it and chop it down. They help to decorate it and we have a night where we camp in a make-shift tent in the living room next to it.

I bought some cardboard Christmas decorations in a craft shop and got DS to paint them and we hung them on the tree. Also gave them as gifts. Will try to find a link.
