My niece has just started her first teaching job. The last few years I've made her a Christmas stocking as they don't do them at her home and she liked the idea of it - and has asked me to continue. Was wondering if there are a few bits I could add in that would be helpful for work? She has tons of pens / nice pencil case/ note book/diary/water bottle already. Maybe if you're a teacher you've found something useful that a non- teacher like me wouldn't think about.

When i was an NQT, i wanted lovely things for my classroom- in particular nice things for my desk
I’ve got one of these pen pots on my desk and a funky post it note dispenser.

Teachers cant have enough stationery. I used to have a really nice pen that i used to use to mark Books woth. Now i have to use pink and, but at the time I loved that pen

I second pastel highlighters, Ive just had my last set robbed. I cant even blame the kids, it was a member of SLT had them Grin

Twinkl subscription and personalised stamps are also brilliant ideas.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 25/09/2020 22:40

@Nibor1991

Pastel highlighters. I got a set in my NQT year and I really like them still! I also have a compact mirror in my desk drawer and a pack of mini nail files. Both super handy, bought by DH so make me smile every time I use them. A personalised desk calendar. There’s lots of lovely classroom stuff, but most teachers aren’t settled in one room atm :(
Thanks for the suggestions. Are even primary teachers not settled in one room?

microwavable hand warmers. Schools are going to be frozen this year due to the covid measures. Ours already is - dreading how it will feel in a month or so.

I found some lovely ones on etsy in all different prints so have ordered some for secret santa.

That's a great idea!

At the moment some nice swishy scarves - schools have all the windows open for ventilation and it’s just going to get colder and colder in the building.

I love my wheely box to carry books too and from the car.

Personalised stickers.

anorangeaday · 26/09/2020 16:33

I agree with hand warmers or a nice flask, the classrooms can be freezing. Lots of hand sanitiser, maybe the bottles you can clip onto your bag or lanyard. Personalised stickers.
@RockingMyFiftiesNot I’m not sure on the set up of primary teachers as I’m secondary. They probably are more in one place as I guess they stay with their one class most of the day.
Thank you @Nibor1991 . Hats off to you and all other teachers - it's a hard enough job anyway without the current extra pressures x

The only things I still use that I bought in my NQT year are my date stamp and my Mighty Mug (thermos that you can't knock over as it sticks/suckers to the desks).

Margo34 · 26/09/2020 22:48

Oh and a pair of fin erless gloves for playground duty when you need to do first aid/open up a plaster in winter.

Margo34 · 26/09/2020 22:48

A label maker!!!

thesnailandthewhale · 27/09/2020 14:16

Sheepskin insoles for her shoes ... keep your feet nice and snuggly :)

Myothercarisalsoshit · 27/09/2020 14:19

A whip and a chair.
A tin hat.
A flak jacket.
But only if they're intending to post on MN ...

SionnachRua · 27/09/2020 14:53

And a lot of alcohol @Myothercarisalsoshit Grin

Myothercarisalsoshit · 27/09/2020 15:32

Ay yes. Preferably gin.

Dreamingofwalden · 28/09/2020 10:25

Nice handcream - all the washing and sanitiser is taking its toll on my poor hands. Fingerless gloves probably useful. A DVD or book that’s totally unrelated to teaching. Grin

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 28/09/2020 10:52

Thank you all. Too many great ideas to choose from! The majority of goodies will be not teaching related but things like hand cream I wouldn't have thought of and crosses over between work/personal gift
