Handbag for school

DD (13) has finally reached a school year where she doesn’t need to use the school issued back pack for school, and is currently using a large black shoulder bag —which— —doesn’t— —fit— —everything— —in— like the other girls in her year. She knows money is tight so unlike the other girls in her year, DD’s bag isn’t designer.

She hasn’t complained but given that she needs a slightly larger bag than the one she has, I’m wondering if it’s possible to get a brand bag for around the £100 mark as part of her Christmas box? I know absolutely nothing about fashion, either fir myself or teenagers, but I would like to get her something nice.

Does anyone know of any suitable bags, and whether eBay would be the way to go? Flowers

Just to add, for years 7 and 8 DD had to use the school issued back pack, which cost £70! It was huge though and fit everything in, but no matter how hard I try, she will not use it for Y9 as no one does Grin

Ask her. Why spend that much on something that is not ^quite^ right? Leading to much disappointment for the three of you: you, your dad and the poor abandoned bag destined for being banished to the bottom of a dark wardrobe. They will differ from school to school, even amongst friendship groups. We've all been there haven't we? That sick feeling.

we all had these at our school in the 80s Everybody had one so that's what I wanted too. Most people had yellow. I did once go for blue and personalised it with U2 written in studs. Sorry just drifted off down memory lane 🤗 They were a crap size and they always snapped your ruler!

I would ask her what she wants. There's nothing worse than being gifted something expensive that you really don't like!

Brandalley, to maxx online, your local outlet store, debenhams or maybe ask her to pick? Ted baker would be big enough x

I was wondering what my dad who abandoned me as a baby had to do with it Grin

Yeah, I think you're right. I don't want to spend that much on something that is so personal as to whether or not it is liked. I am collecting DD from school tomorrow so will (hopefully) see some other pupils with their bags and start a conversation with DD about which bags are best. Normally all I get in response to questions at the end of the school day is "hmm", "dunno" or "just wait while I reply to this insta" Grin
