My DS is turning 5 at Christmas. He is getting a two wheeled scooter from us, I'm wondering what else to get him as we have birthday and Christmas presents to cover.

He likes Transformers, vehicles, Octonauts, how things work.

He already has

  • Lego which he plays with in fits and starts, but not the biggest collection, so I'll get a small set as a present
  • several transformers rescue bots toys
  • vehicles eg trains and wooden Brio style track, few hot wheels cars, playmobil ambulance, camper van, a few fire engines
  • Octonauts bits, octopod, figures, one or two Gups
  • junior Knex wheels and wings set

If he's still asking for it I will try and find him some more Octonauts Gups. Can't think of much else though!

A remote control car - my DS liked the Super Mario one.
Football and a small goal set.

I’ve got a kiddizoom camera, hot wheels set, Jurassic world playmobil and marvel dressing up outfit/ accessories for my almost 4.5yr old

I got my son a Miibro robot last year. It’s a little remote control robot that also has a two way walkie talkie type thing in it. My son still loves it and plays with it loads which given the pile of forgotten toys is an achievement. It’s pretty cheap for what it does as well

Gravitrax- my 8 and 5 year olds play with it for hours and hours at a time

Kinetic sand goes down amazingly with everyone here and another vote for magnaformers, another favourite is the humpty dumpty wall game, they have to build a wall and put a humpty dumpty on top, then try to stop him falling.

Thank you everyone, great suggestions.

He got two playmobil vehicles last Christmas/birthday and they don't get much play time so I don't think I'll get any more as they're expensive too.

Magformers is a great shout and I was going to get some last year but didn't because he was getting the Knex juniors. Might get a starter set for his stocking.

Kinetic sand we have and he does love it!

I'm also going to look into Meccano.
