This year me and my partner are on our own for xmas. Our children are with their other parents so we have the whole of xmas eve night (working xmas eve until 5) and all xmas day until boxing day morning.

Both of us had children young-ish so this is the first time we have got xmas just us two and also not visiting parents.

If this has been you, or is going to be you, what did you or will you be doing to make the most of the time juts us two. We're completely stumped as our xmas's have always involved kids and parents!

My parents spend Christmas Day by themselves due to various reasons. They get nice posh picky food, new jammies and plan a day watching tv/ movies and nibbles. They always start the morning with champagne. Even if circumstances changed I don't think they'd give up their 'grown up' Christmas Day now Smile

Sounds lovely. Lie in, nice breakfast, bath, sex, open presents, drinks, lunch, film, fall asleep!

This is what we did last Christmas:
-wake up whenever you want
-go down stairs and DH started the fire while I had a shower and put my new Christmas outfit on
-I then open the Buck’s Fizz (M&S do a lovely Christmas one) and put the frozen pastries in the oven while DH has a shower
-eat pastries fresh from the oven, drink Buck’s Fizz and sit in front of the fire
-open presents
-call parents
-walk the dog, not too far but just enough to feel like you did get a breath of fresh air
-nap
-open the second bottle of fizz
-open the chocolates
-made stuffing one - for stuffing butties for lunch
-ate more chocolate
-started doing Christmas dinner - we went all out, we had a roast duck, lots of veggies, pigs in blankets, two stuffings (paxo and a make from scratch one with hazelnuts), baked Camembert with balsamic figs for starters. The only thing we didn’t make from scratch was the chocolate bomb pudding. However, this is only because we had the time and prepped a lot on Christmas Eve. We’ve also had a great time buying a 3 bird roast from Aldi and aunt bessies roasts and Yorkshire puds. We have been to a pub for Christmas lunch before but I just don’t think they give enough roast potatoes 🐷
-opened the first bottle of wine as dinner was cooking
-opened the second bottle as we had dinner
-I opened the baileys, he opened a new whiskey
-have a bath with baileys and chocolate
-start to lose track of time
-small nap
-more booze and chocolate until bed

If like PPs say, you’re going to get sex in, do it early otherwise you’re too full from chocolate and booze!

Oh sounds great!!! Haha
Maybe if you fancy it walk to your local pub, you could book a table or just get a drink and walk back. We have some lovely walks around here that lead to some great pubs that have a great atmosphere Christmas day. You could always get the premade stuff from M&S food wise if you wanted an extra chill day too. I would just really relax and have a few bevs! And eat lots of food! I am sure it will be hectic the next day when the kids are back :)

These ideas are all amazing! Think we definately want it chilled out with good food, alcohol and sex! Will make sure to schedule the sex before food!

Oooh, if it was just DH and me we would stay on jammies and just eat, snack and binge xmas tv all day!!

Before I had kids, but after I met DH he always worked xmas day, all day. I used to go to mums for xmas lunch and gifts and then come home around 6PM and just collapse in front of the tv in jammies. I didnt usually stay awake very long & DH would wake me coming home but I remember always feeling sad that I'd be alone, but then by the time the evening came I really enjoyed that time alone to deflate.

SpnBaby1967 · 31/08/2020 20:28

*drink, snack and binge

DOH!

Is it worth booking a xmas meal out somewhere? x
