Christmas crackers

Hi, we usually have fill your own crackers, but I’m wondering if there are any nice crackers out there that aren’t either madly expensive or full of plastic rubbish? Any ideas please?
DS is 11 and likes things he can build or make, or is really into art.

I saw origami crackers in various shops last year. No plastic tat and each cracker had coloured card and instructions on how to make a particular origami shape. I thought they were a nice idea to give everyone something to do at the table.

We bought some last year from amazon that were ‘lego inspired’ shall we say. Basically they were fake lego and we had either vehicles or animals

I cant find the amazon link, as it says they are out of stock but i think they come back i to stock before christmas

The best ones we ever had contained a whistle and basic sheet music. Each one was a different note. Trying to get the whole table to play theirs in time and to the tune was a good laugh.

We had some really good crackers with magiv tricks in last year, the dc really like them and have carefully kept the tricks. I think they might have been made by a company called Ridley?

I have some crackers in the loft with wind up toys to race for this year.

I honestly don’t know anyone who still buys crackers. Aren’t they very out of fashion now? Even my parents don’t buy them these days

Christmas isn’t Christmas without crackers. I would be so disappointed if I sat down to a Christmas lunch without them (even if my DM and DB who always come to ours for lunch don’t bother with them).
Christmas dinner doesn’t taste the same unless you’re wearing a paper hat 😀

We still have crackers.

We still have a box left over from last year so that will be used lol. I would like nicer ones next year though.

I like the idea of the ones where you get wind up toys that you can have a race with. And I think hotel chocolat did xmas crackers with chocs in last year. Some beauty brands do makeup crackers or toiletry crackers ie. Bath bombs, hand creams etc x

Ha ha sorry didn’t mean to offend!! I LOVE Christmas 🎄 I’m just not used to seeing crackers on the table any more... I could potentially be tempted by some truly fabulous ones but they always were a bit disappointing I remember as a child. My I’m-laws have party poppers instead. We do dress the table up, just without crackers!

Yeah Youzam, you’re absolutely right - Christmas crackers are always disappointing, they promise so much but never deliver. I still have to have them though.
I once went for a works Christmas lunch which didn’t have crackers - 20 years later and I’ve still not got over it 😂

I don't want crackers, they contain utter tat which just goes in the bin an hour later... BUT they feel like part of Christmas, I think just because I am so used to having them...
A colleague of mine went home for Christmas last year and his DM had made a personalised cracker box, a little box with some small gifts inside, such as keyrings etc.
I'm well ahead of the Xmas shopping so far, so I think I will steal this idea instead of having crackers.
I'm going to buy some small Xmas themed boxes, add in my own themed jokes, a paper hat (I'm sure you must be able to buy these separately online) plus a small gift. I will put it all together with some nice tissue paper or something. Hopefully they will be well received.
