Book ideas for 7yo

One of my great joys at Christmas is to give books that my dds will really like. Ideally from an author or series that they haven't read before.

I don't have any good ideas for 7yo dd2 though. She's a fairly confident reader, has recently read the first Harry Potter, but we've found she enjoys slightly easier books more. She likes funny books, and also comic style ones. Dogman was a huge hit, as was The Bad Guys, and she also loves the 13 Storey Treehouse series.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

Jacqueline Wilson's stories would be good!
My son coming up to 7 likes books by Ronald Dahl and David walliams atm.

I remember when I was little I loved the tales from brambly hedge and tales of little grey rabbit, gorgeous illustrations but more along the beatrix potter style of stories x

Roald * autocowrecked lol

Thanks, good idea. We've read a lot of the David Walliams books already and some Roald Dahl, but ill see which ones we haven't read.

Id forgotten about Jaqueline Wilson. Dd1 loved her books. I remember them being a bit adult sometimes (though really good).

My 7 year old loves Tom Gates books. They are quite similar to the 13 Storey Treehouse series in style.

I teach in Year 3 and the girls are very often reading The Worst Witch books

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to order the Wigglesbottom Primary books for now and maybe look at some more closer to the time.

My 6 year old likes the worst witch series, mr majeika and absolutely loves The Bold books by Julian Clary which are great

I’d recommend the following series based on what my daughter enjoyed at this age:
The Worst Witch
Amelia Fang
Witch Wars

Then when she’s a little older (around 9)
Scarlet and Ivy
Hetty Feather (Jacqueline Wilson)
Malory Towers!
